Mitchell Writes About Stirnweiss ....
Ed Mitchell of the Durham Herald, has the following to
say about George Stirnweiss of Carolina:
“For the benefit of all major league clubs in general, the
Cincinnati Reds in particular, this column will state that the
club which lands Stirnweiss will get a “five-star leader”. He
tops the Tar Heels in runs batted in, 19; runs scored, 21;
extra base hits, 7; stolen bases, 9; and homers, 3- Until re
cently he also led the Carolina boys in batting, but this hon
or now is held by Shortstop Matty Topkins. On the football
Held Stirnweiss was a star booter, his punts averaging with
the best of them, but he goes from one extreme to another,
for on the baseball field he hardly knows what it means to
boot one. Stirnweiss has fielded 78 out of 80 chances. He’s a
great fellow along with it, and the club which lands him will
get what the professional baseball boys term a “good man on
a ball club’’.”
Roxboro people are interested in Stirnweiss. Many have
seen him play football and a few have watched him on the
diftfnond. We all like the boy from New York State and hope
that he makes good in league baseball.

What’s Wrong?
Tuesday Morning Before the baseball season opened
everyone said that the St. Louis Cardinals had one of the
best teams in the National League- Now the figures show that
St Louis has played fifteen games and has won only five.
Enos Slaughter stated that he thought the Cardinals would
be good this year. Something must be wrong somewhere.
Enos has been doing his part. He has been hitting the
ball at a better clip than ever and looks like he is going places
this year. The real reason for the slump will have to show up
sooner or later and we think the Cardinals will be on top be
fore long.

Elon Does O. K
Elon College has just won the North State baseball
conference championship. The boys from Elon won 20 out of
21 games and the reason they didn’t win more was because
they did not play any more
People who saw this team play say that it was a great
ball club and the players and Coach Hendrickson deserve con
gratulations.
