who entertained the members oi
her club and several special
guests.
The game was played at three
tables, with club high score go
ing tio Miss Velma Beam and visi
tor’s award 1 to Miss Claire Harris.
For refreshments Mrs. Malone
served strawberry shortcake and
punch. Decorations were tulips
and other flowers displayed in at
tractive arrangements throughout
the house.
Miss Bernice Raiff is spending
a few days in New Ytork.
Mrs. C. W. Armstrong and
children,. of Salisbury, spent the
weekend here at the home of Mrs.
Armstrong’s father. W. H. Harris.

prize went to Mrs. J. A. Long.

to Mrs. Lee Weathers, of Shelby,
who will return to her home to
morrow after visiting her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Noell,
and to Mrs. Boyle, of Lockhaven,
Pa., house guest of Mrs. J. A.
Long.
Luncheon was served at 12.30
o’clock at a table detto rated with
arrangements of tulips.

Played His First
Role Too Well
Alan Baxter came out to Holly
wood, following several Broadway
stage successes, hoping for some
character roles.
He was cast as a “bad egg’’ in
"Public Enemy No. 1” and play
ed the role to perfection. Result:
he’s gotten similar roles ever sin
ce.
Baxter’s latest characterization
is that of the questionable boy
friend of pretty, Blonde Mary
Beth Hughes in “Free, Blonde
anl 21,” the 26th Century-Fox
film opening today at the Dolly
Madison theatre. Lynn Bari, Joan
Davis. Henry Wilcoxon and Ro
bert Lowery are also among those
featured.
