Page Eight ■ ■ 1 zz PRAYER FOR THE WEEK (It is suggested that you tear this prayer out and place it at your table to be used as a basis for family devotions each morning of the ) • • O God, our heavenly father, we thank thee for setting us in families and making us know that thou art the father of us all- Grant to us in this day that respect and tolerance and holy love that will make this home a house of joy and a place of peace. Enlarge our visions that we may practice our brotherhood with each person we meet today. Cleanse us from any selfish thoughts and deeds, and place in us visions of eternity and plans for the present. Help us to be quite enough in these moments to hear thee speak thy will, and grant us strength enough in this day to do thy will. »e pray this in the spirit of Jesus Christ. Amen. H. vj. Jti. Poets Corner Recalled Memories 0 Oh the moonlight tonight on the old Mediterranean Sea, Brings the sweetest of mem’ries to me. And as I gaze at the waves, alone with my dreams, How near those memories seem. Memories that go back to my childhood days, Os my pals and me at play. And how we grew up, how we drifted apart, Yet our friendship is still in our hearts. Memories of the loved ones that are now far away, Where I hope to be again some day. How happy we shall be together once more, And live again those days of yore. Oh the moon light tonight on the old Mediterranean Sea, Brings the sweetest of mem’ries to me. And as I gaze at the waves, alone with my dreams, How near those memories seem. Memories of those old North Carolina hills, Os nightbirds singing o’er the rills. Os those noonlit trails where we would roam, PM % Lubricating jl GULF SERVICE .■£ STATION "*** Your Friendly Gulf Servant i SE?' ~ ' '' i""* t I RECORDS NOW IN STOCK- | SIOUX CITY SUE Hoosier Hot Shots | THERE’S A TEAR IN MY BEER TONIGHT. .Hoosier Hot Shots | GET AWAY, MR. Built by God’s undying, wonder- V ful love, In the heaven that I long too see. Jesus, make me worthy of that mansion, Make me worthy of God’s sweet ' love. Answer this cry of a sinner, make : me worthy of that mansion above. 5 On earth there’s temptations all along the way, 3 That I’ve yielded to o’re and o’r- Now I want to be ready to enter e some day, That mansion on heaven's fair shore. h I’ve asked your forgiveness many e times for the sins, Committed through weekness and e for pleasure. And I know you forgave me again and again, Prepared for me heavenly treas ures. Now, Father, again in sorrow I come, Asking through Christ’s undying • love, Forgiveness for those sinful deeds I’ve done, Make me worthy of that mansion above. 47.7 PERCENT OF VISITS TO USES ARE WORLD WAR VETS 0 116,838 Visits Were Made To Local USES Offices in December, 1945 Indicative of the speed with ■which the armed forces are being demobilized is the fact that al most half, 47.7 percent, of the vis its in which services were rend ered in December in local offices of the United States Employment Service, were made by veterans, approximately 99 percent of them of World War 11. Robert M. du Bruyne, acting State director of the USES, re ports that 116,838 visits were made to local USES offices in December, about an average month for 1945. Os these visits, additional services were rendered in 109,605 cases, and 52,326 of these cases were those of veter ans, a veteran increase from a proportion of about one out of ten in the early months of last year. This does not mean that 52,000 different veterans visited the lo cal offices in December, for many of them return for further in formation or help and those draw ing servicemen’s readjustment al lowances visit the offices each week to renew their claims, Mr. du Bruyne erplains. However, this report shows that almost half of the activities of the personnel of local offices are connected with war veterans and their problems, and the pro portion will increase as more vet erans return home. That is why so much stress is being placed in local offices on handling the problems of returning veterans, Mr. du Bruyne said. Women’s whims keep goods and men moving—fast.
