Prices to us may be increased by the wholesale merchant. ■ A few items had to be sold, during the OPA regulation, at prices that allowed us practically no profit. ROUGHTON Mr. and Mrs. George Sarti are entertaining at their home in Black Mountain their friends, Mr- and Mrs. Ernie Hilficker of Beacon, N. Y. Mr. Sarti is general manager of the Clearwater Manufacuring Company at Old Fort. o Mrs. L. N. Saunders of Char lotte is visiting her mother Mrs. Sallie Sabom at Old Fort for two weeks. o Captain Robert Mackelfresh of Fort Belvoir, Va-, are visiting rela tives at Old Fort. Captain MackeL fresh returned recently from an assignment in China and India. He will be stationed at Fort Belvoir. Mrs. Mackelfresh who was the former Miss Natalie Epley of Old Fort, holds a position with the War Department at Fort Beyvoir. o W. Clyde Miller, Jr., has arrived from Houston, Texas to join his family who are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Miller at Old Fort- Mrs. Miller, Jr. returned this week to Miami where she visited her mother for several days. x Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Dennis have as their holiday guests for the week at their home in Old Fort, their son, Carl Dennis, veteran, who is in school at Ft. Wayne, Indiana, their daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Mr. and Mrs. O. V. Trexler and Anne Trexler of Salis bury, and Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Park er of Coolleemee, N- C. THE BLACK MOUNTAIN NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Frances Mauney and children, Margaret Anne, Mary Frances and Robert Lee of Semi nole, Oaklahoma arrived Monday for a visit with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Mauney of Old Fort. o Col. Edson Duncan Raff, USA. is spending this week with his family at Old Fort. x Miss Carolyn Mclntosh of Wash ington, D. C. is spending several days at the home of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. D. M. Mclntosh of Old Fort. o Lt. Archie N. Mclntosh, Medical Corps, USA ad Mrns. Mclntosh are also guests at the home of their parents in Old Fort. Lt. Mc- Intosh will leave next week for foreign duties in the Phillipines. o The Woman’s Society of Christ ian Sendee of Old Fort Methodist church met last Sunday afternoon at three o’clock in the main audi torium of the church. The Wes leyan Guild was invited to join the group for the summer months. Mrs. Grayson Baily has charge of the program. George Reed Early, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Early of Old Fort has received his discharge after nineteen months service with the construction battalion of the U. S. Navy. He took part in the battle of Okinawa, serving as carpenter’s mate first class. He expects to engage in the garage business- o Revival services will begin at the Old Fort Wesleyan Methoist church on Sunday July 14. The Rev. F. M. Wilson pastor of the church, will be in charge. The public is cordially invited to attend the ser vices which will begin at eight o’clock each evening. Mr. and Mrs. William Melton Hooper of Gastonia have returned to their home after a visit at the home of their aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Sidney F. Mauney at Old Fort. o Miss Elizabeth of Smithfield is spending this month with her friend Mrs. George B. Strickland at Old Fort. B. T. Nichols, ex-serviceman of Old Fort, has purchased four new automobiles which will be used as taxis in Old Fort. A concrete building which has been under con struction for the past few weeks on south Main street, is nearing completion and will be used as a taxi stand for the new Company. Present operators in town include Arthur and George Brown, Earnest Allison, J. S. Souther and Herman Vess. , o Mrs. W. C. Macon and child ren, Gloria, Barbara and Tom are spending this week on a camping trip with their friends Mr and Mrs. Earnest Ramsey of Denmark, S.C. o Mr. and Mrs. Grover C. Freeman of Old Fort have as their guests the former’s sister and niece and nephew, Mrs. Jesse Ola Beall and Wade Davis, Jr., all of Westfield, Pa. Weekly dinners are being served to the Old Fort Rotary club by the Old Fort Woman’s club. The project was undertaken in order to equip the kitchen at the community building. A kitchen with a hot-water tank has been donated by the Rotary club to the com munity building. Mrs. H. G. Miller is president of the Woman’s club and Harvey J. Rockett is president of the Ro tary club. Capt. John Vess, USA who is stationed at Washington, D. C. is spending this week visiting his mother, Mrs. Bertha Kline, in Old Fort. o The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. John V. Robinson of Old Fort who was bom on July 1 and lived only a short time, was buried on Tues day afternoon at 4:30 at the Adams family cemetery at Old Fort. Mrs. Robinson is the former Miss Mary Virginia Adams, daughter of Col. and Mrs. D. W. Adams of Old Fort. o Rev. Burrell of Old Fort was struck by a car in front of the Northwestern Bank Building Sat_ urday July 6. He was not seriously injured according to bystanders. o Captain Jack Cline, USA, who is stationed at Washington, D. C. has returned to his duties after a brief visit in Old Fort.
