Phillips entertained in honor of Miss Ruby Ballard who recently became' the bride of Lawrence Wheelon. The party was given at the Phillips home on Craigmont Road on Tuesday, November 19. The guest of honor was presented with a table cloth by the group. There were two tables of bridge and one of rummy. High for bridge went to Mrs. A1 Moosbrugger and for rummy to Mrs. Lucky Terrell. Two draw prizes for bingo were awarded to Mrs Ed Knight and Mrs. Ted Holman. Others present were Mrs. W. W. White, Mrs. Roy Taylor, Mrs. James Northcott, Mrs. Dick Oola han, Mrs. Oscar Penny, Miss Fanis worth Holmon, Mrs. Albert Gar land, and Miss Emma Ballard. o SURPRISE PARTY FOR F. S. CUNNINGHAM Sunday, November 24 at 1:00 p. m. ten guests surprised -F. S. Cun ningham at a birthday dinner given for him at his home. In a color scheme of pink and white the table was decorated with center piece of pink and white carnations and candles. On the white birthday cake were pink and white candles. Guests included the Rev. and Mrs. Charles Jolley and Ped Jolley of Swannanoa, Miss Irene Hall, Durham; Miss Kathleen White head, Mr. and Mrs. D. T. Blackwell, Miss Ann Blackwell, and Mrs. W. E. Glenn, all of Asheville, and j Mrs. Lindiey Allred of Black! Mountain. ARTISTS GUILD HOLDS EXHIBIT The Asheville artists guild is holding the annual Christmas ex hibition in the Buncombe county j court house, fourth floor, from 2 p. m. till 5 p. m. daily except Saturday, at which time it will ; be from 9 a. m. till 12 noon. Sev- j eral artists of this area are ex hibiting their works. On Sunday afternoon members i will receive and tea will be served. Art lovers are cordially invited j to the largest exhibition that the guild has shown. WOMEN’S SOCIETY WILL HEAR MRS. SANDERS A general meeting of the Wo men’s Society of the State street Methodist church wil be held in the Fellowship room of the church Tuesday, December 3. Mrs. C. E. Keith will preside. Mrs. Herbert Sanders will speak on “The World Federation of Methodist Women.” Devotions will be lead by Mrs. E. J. Anthony. FELLOWSHIP SUPPER POSTPONED ONE WEEK The Wesleyan Service Guild will be hostesses to the fellowship sup per of the Methodist church on Wednesday, December 4, at 6:30 p. m. in the church. Of ficers for the coming year will be installed. o SPEND THANKSGIVING WITH PARENTS Mr. and Mrs. Ted Holman are to spend Thanksgiving with Mrs. Hol man’s mother, Mrs. Woods, at Rox boro, N. C. F. F. A. ORGANIZE STAND COMMITTEE Future Farmers of America of the Black Mountain high school have organized a stand committee to secure money for a stand on which to sell products brought in by the boys from the farm. Carrol Stevens has been appointed chair man with Richard Capps and Jack Ramsey as the other members. OLD FORT SPLITS Old Fort High school split a pair with Pleasant Gardens Tues day night, the Old Fort boys win ning, 21 to 10, and the girls losing, 10 to 6. The games were played at Pleasant Gardens. Faw was high scorer for the Old Fort boys with eight points, and L. Williams paced the girls with four. HEARS FROM SON Mrs. Dale Bartlett received word Wednesday from her son, William Walter Smith, S 2-c of the United , States navy. He has been travel- | ing since he last wrote but is now in China. He expects to return ! to the States sometime in the late j winter or early spring. McDonalds return TO ATLANTA Mrs. A. P. McDonald and son j Allen, who have been with Mrs. Clifford Porter, Mrs. McDonald’s mother, for a month, plan to return to Atlanta Sunday. Dr. McDonald expects to come for them at that time. MISS HOWARD WILL SPEND WINTER WITH MRS. ALESHIRE Miss Wanda Howard of Los Angeles, California, arrived last Saturdav to spend the winter with Mrs. Mary E.
