A. Buchanan; Lucy Wright Circle at 7:30 p. m. with Mrs. G. 15. Wilkie; Neal Young Circle at 7:30 with Mrs. J. T. Mayfield; and the Lot tie Moon Circle at 7:30 with Mrs. Gussie Norton. A meeting of the deacons was held Monday night at the church, and the Church Conference was held Wednesday night. The Intermediate G. A.’s met Tuesday night at 7:00 p. m. with their counselor, Mrs. Howard En sley. The Y. W. A. met Monday night at the home of the counselor, Mrs. J. P. Bennett. ° I | BAPTISMAL SERVICE HELD i Thirteen people were baptised in a beautiful ceremony last Sun day night at the Swannanoa Bap tist church, by the Rev. Charles Jollay. Her name is Julia Ann Mrs. O’Dell is the former Miss Virginia Baldwin, daughter of Mr. H. B. Baldwin of Swannanoa. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Colclough. Myrtle Ferguson, and Lessie Lee Edgerton, all of Durham, N. C., were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jollay last week-end. S M 1-c Marion C. English was honored with a birthday dinner last Sunday, by his daughter, Miss Grace English. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Au thur Black and daughter, Jo, Mrs. H. E. Metcalf, Mrs. H. E. Wil banks, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Gibbs and daughters, Martha and Jayne, and son, Raeford, and Mrs. S. H. English. Mrs. Jonsie Queen, formerly of Swannanoa, and Mrs. Willard Hall and her two sons, of West Ashe ville, were visitors in Swannanoa Sunday. Society MISS SHOOK IS BRIDE OF EARL WADDELL Miss Margie Pauline Shook, daughter of Mrs. Annie Shook and the late H. J. Shook of Swan nanoa, was married May 31 to Earl Frederick Waddell, son of Mr. and Mrs. M W. Waddell of Swannanoa, at the home of the Rev. Leroy Thomas, pastor of the Oakley Baptist church. The bride wore a suit of powder blue with white accessories. Her corsage was of red rosebuds. Mrs. Ralph Robertson was ma tron of honor. She wore a brown suit with white accessories and her corsage was a gardenia. Ralph Robertson served as the bridegroom’s best man. Mrs. Waddell is a graduate of I Swannanoa High school. Mr. Wad dell attended Swannanoa school, served two years in the navy, and is now employed at Beacon Manu facturing company.
