They are now students at Lees Mcßae at Banner Elk, N. C„ studying to be medical secretaries. Mrs. J. L. Holman. Jr. . has recent! - .’ joined our staff as Dr. C. D Thomas' secretary. Miss Dorothy Rumbough. form er patient and record librarian, is leaving us to be married February 29. The lucky mar. is William Hus sey of TV eaverviile. A Mrs. Deborah Bogus of Ashe ville is joining our staff as re cord librarian. Miss Lillian Ross of Morgan ton visited us Thursday. She is county accountant of Burke coun ty- Misses Sue and Rebecca Shields of Belmont visited their brother. Claude Shields last weekend. W.N.C.S. had its first breath of spring '-vhen the girl scout troop number 3, under the leader ship of Mrs. Carroll Hail, came out from Asheville and gave a program in the auditorium. Anita Cowan, whose father is V\ li lis Kenneth Cowan, of this san atorium, was master of ceremonies and she did a neat job. The pro gram was opened with the scout Hymn and was followed by a read ing, Psalm of Life. The next thing on the program was In Jhe Gar den, sung by the entire troop. After the Lord's Prayer ,tne girls gathered around the microphone, and broadcast to the patients on the wards. The girls were young, fresr., and gay high school stu dents who sang beautifully a num ber of popular songs, as well as some of the old ones wn:ch never grow too oid to be enjoyable, ser enade of the Bells, Apple Blossom Wedding seemed to have been the favorites of the popular songs, and in Tr.e Evening and Teli Me Why got a load of applause from the audience; but when they sang the Bath Tub Song, which told the story of Annie being as thin as a tooth pick and should stay away from drain pipes, they drew a howl of laughter an . an encore. Mary Ann Styles, a charming person and with a beautifully trained voice, sang Always. .After the program Moyer Edwards, lab oratory technician, got an intro duction to all the girls by holding Miss Blanche Piott, social worker, to an idle promise which she made to him. No sooner was the program over than Eddie was there quicker than a flea, to be introduced to - Margaret Bell. Sue Corgile, Max ine Clontz. Anita Cowan. Freda Echols, Laura Heise. Mary Ann ’ Styles, Margaret Sublet. Barbara Patterson, and Mrs. Carol! Hall. When we made a quick round of the wards, Eddie ran into some 1 real competition. ★ -* RIDGECREST . . • . Kale, at their home "Brown Cottage'', cele brating Mrs. Womack's birthday. Little Lanr.y Russell took hjs parents. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Russell, to visit Mr. and Mrs. Victor Creas man at Ridgecrest Sunday. Theodore Allred of South Car olina spent the week end with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. George All red. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Brackett have returned from. Marietta, S. C., where they visited Mrs. Brackett’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Dar neil Mis. Joe Moore had as her guests last week her nephew Mor rison Campbell, and hi- little son Dan from Myrtle Beach, S. C. The Rev. J. Fred Stimson occu pies the pulpit of Calvary Bap tist church, West Asheville, last Sunday. Dr. B. A. Bowers is ill at his home. "Park Place”, and was un able to fill his appointment at Cal vary Baptist church, W. Asheville. Sunday, where he is serving as in terim pastor. Mrs. George H. Hlonian accompan ied by Mrs. Justin McSweeney and daughter. Ann left Tuesday for Jackson, Miss., to be with Mrs. Holman’s brother, W. A. Rogers, who lost his wife recently. Susan Jackson, Bobby Steele, Sandra Brvson, Brenda Garland, and Nan cy’ Gregory. Mr. Gregory showed the children several “m vies which were followed by games. Susan Jackson gave the story of George Washington and the cher ry tree. Refreshments in keeping • wi the holiday were served by the children to their mothers, who were guests.
