HONOR MRS. OBERMAYER
MITH TEA AND SHOWER
On Friday afternoon October
8, Mrs. M. J. Baer, Mrs. Robert
Qu.llen, and Mrs. Carter Uzzell
entertained with tea and shower
at the home of Mrs. M. J. Baer in
honor of Mrs. Betsy Obermayer
"ho will be leaving Black Mountain
soon for her future home in Wash
ington.
The hostesses received their
guests in the living room which
was decorated with autumn flow
ers. The tea table in the dining
room was laid with a lace cloth,
centered by a silver bowl of white
gladioli, surrounded by white can
dles that burned from silver
candlesticks. The sideboard was
banked with white cosmos.
During the afternoon a tea cart
was rolled into the living room
laden with the beautiful shower
gifts of the guests for Mrs. Ober
mayer whose departure leaves a
void for her many friends.
Forty guests called to wish the
honoree future happiness, and it
was a very happy occasion.

The Woman’s Society of Christ
ian Service met at the home of
Misses Ruby, Caroline, and Bern-
ice Hall, Tuesday afternoon, Oc
tober 5. Mrs. C. E. Keith, presi
dent, presided over ,the business
session. Mrs. W. T. Wright had
the devotional for the afternoon.
Miss Ruby Hall gave a talk on
Alaska.” After the meeting a
social hour was enjoyed by- Mrs.

ORGANIZE COMMITTEE
The executive board of the
Black Mountairl Woman’s club
met Monday afternoon at the home
of Misses Florence and Minnie
Drinker to plan for the coming
meetings and to organize a new
committee for canvassing for the
Community Chest drive. Mrs.
George Stone, club president, pre
sided and named the following
committee: Mrs. E. V. Gouge,
chairman, Mrs. C. C. Godfrey, Mrs.
Dempsey Whitaker, Mrs. Fannie
Fitzgerald, Mrs. G. L. Kirkpat
rick, Mrs. B. W. Rowland, and
Misses Ethel and Louise Simmons.
Others present at the meeting

LINDA WEST FETED
ON SIXTH BIRTHDAY
Mrs. C. D. West entertained
recently with a birthday party in
honor of her daughter Linda’s
sixth birthday anniversary. A
color scheme of pink and white was
carried out in decorations and re
freshments. The table was cent
ered with a large white birthday
cake decorated with pink rose
buds and candles.
Games were played and each
child received a favor. Cake, ice
cream, mints, and pink lemonade
were served to the following: Lin
da West, the honoree; Vivian
Stewart, Lillie and Lally Drake,
Linda Matthews, Judy Byrd, La
Vonne, Rachel and Mildred Rhodes,
Judy and Gwendolyn McAfee,
Mrs. Edward Stewart, Mrs. A. R.

WITH MRS. RANKIN MILLER
The Woman’s Auxiliary of St.
James Episcopal church met at the
home of Mrs. Rankin Miller in
Grovemont Tuesday, October 5.
The president, Mrs. Robert Mar
tin. opened the meeting with prayer.
The speaker for the afternoon
was unable to attend due to a
cold. Two guests were present:
Mrs. Florence Smith of Swannanoa
and Mrs. Freddric Ely of Florida.
After the business meeting and
closing prayer by the president,
refreshments were served to: Mrs.
