At the present time the ever live city council is seriously considering the erection of a magnificent and up-to-date municipal hall, one that will be a credit to the growing town. In the way of the water supply, the city is furnished with the purest from various crystal mountain streams, and it is expected by next October, if all goes well, that the water system here will be perfect in every respect. In the matter of schools Bessemer City stands well in the front rank for a town of its size. The graded school employs 11 teach ers, all of whom are of the highest class in the way of refinement and education. There is also a good school for colored children. As for churches, the Methodists have two edifices, while the Presbyterian, Associate Re formed Presbyterian, Protestant-iilpis- copal and J/iutheran, have cnj .ti, which are doing an extensive Dusiness. Under way is a fine new hotel that will contain every modern comfort and convenience, and will be second to none in this part of the old North State. Bessemer City is located on the Southern Railway and has the distinction of 'being one of the most beautiful towns of Gaston county, and the natural attractiveness of the site is attributed to the wise judgment of the men who first settled the locality. Bessemer has a popula tion of 3,200 good, sturdy people, and few places can boast of a more honest and industrious set of American men and women. Constant improvement is going on in Bessemer City, and the transformation along this line, during the pa,g^'few years, has been nothing ’ nderful, but so gradual that i-Jants hardly realize-^it. th^feciated umerous only tuc urest f visitors who can see and appreciate the improvements between one visit and another. Bessemer’s civic im-. provements is due . to the wise and progressive City Fathers, who have always been possessed with plenty of push, and the right kind of energy that transforms villages into big and prosperous cities. Bessemer, among its score of other good things, has an excellent drainage system, and one that would be hard to beat anywhere, but still further improvements are con templated. The mayor of the city is the Hon. R. F. Coble, who is the right man in the right place, and one who is always to be found fighting in the ranks of the progressives for the city’s advancement in any, and all directions. He is a native of Chatham county, N. C.. where he was born in 1871. He received the major part of his educa tion at the Concord High School, and while a resident there served as an Alderman with credit and distinc tion for 12 years. In 1906 he decided to come to Bessemer City to cast his fortunes, a move that he never has had reason to regret. He is now serv ing his first term as mayor. Among other things Mayor Coble is superin tendent of the Atlas Mills, one of the most prosperous here. In fraternal circles he is a popular and prominent member of the Masonic fraternity and the Knights of Pythias. Mayor Cob^® C. W. FULLER, Chief of Police. is ably assistant in the management of the city by the worthy commission ers whose names are given above, by Recorder Rollins and City Attorney Whitney.
