A Loris, S.C., man was charged
with DWI Sunday evening after his
car struck the t ear of another car
about 1.4 miles south of Shallotte on
U.S. 17.
According to State Trooper D.B.

Hodge, 41, was charged with DWI
after his 1975 Chevrolet struck the
rear of a 1981 Toyota driven by
Harold E. Rowland, 20, of Jacksonville.
Both vehicles were traveling north
on U.S. 17 when Hodge's vehicle accelerated
and ran into the rear of the
Rowland car, Harvell reported.
A passenger in the Rowland car,
Michelle Rowland, 20, received
minor injuries and was treated at the
scene.
Harvell estimated damages at
$1,500 to the Rowland car and $1,000
to the Hodge vehicle. The accident
occurred around 6:15 n m
Trooper Harvcll was recently
transferred to Brunswick County,
said Highway Patrol spokeswoman
Ruby Oakley. Before he joined the
district, Brunswick County had been
operating one trooper short of normal
staff, she added.
State To Issue
Discharge Permit

The permit would become effective

fuel and 788 quarts of oil, according

payments to landowners are required
to file Form
1099-Miscellaneous with the Internal
Revenue Service when reporting
their 1984 income tax, said Steve
Suiter, N.C. State University
economist.
Payments of $600 or more a year
for land rent are subject to reporting,
if made to a person other than a corporation
and if made in the course of
the payer's trade or business, Suiter
said.
Rents reported on the 1059 form
also include tobacco quota lease
payments.
