The West Brunswick Trojans opened
the new baseball season with three
games over a five-day stretch last
week winning twice over North and
South Brunswick but dropping a 5-1
decision to Laney.
The Trojans opened the season last
Tuesday with a 7-1 rout of South
Brunswick, lost their home opener to
Laney on Friday but regrouped ^o
take a narrow 2-1 win over visiting

The Trojans continue nonconference
play Friday with a return
matchup at Laney and open Three
Rivers 3-A Conference action next
Friday at home against Clinton.
Highlighting the week for the Trojans
was a pair of home runs by
centerfielder Henry Stevenson and
two pitching wins by senior hurler
Matt Gore.

between the Trojans and Scorpions
centered on the pitching duel of j
Matt Gore and North Brunswick's
Andre Perkins. The two pitchers i
allowed only 12 base runners between i
them and gave up only seven hits I

A hitter's day it wasn't.
The Scorps scored their first and I
| only run in the fourth inning breaking
a scoreless tie when shortstop Ricky
Edge singled and came home on a
pair of errors by Trojan leftfielder
Tom Brown and second baseman
Rusty Johnson.
North Brunswick had little time to
enjoy the lead as the Trojans struck
for a pair of nins in t'neir half of the
fourth. After Gore reached base on
Edge's error, Stevenson powered his
two-out shot over the fence and gave
West Brunswick its final 2-1 winning
mar Bin.
Chris and Craig Johnson were the
only other Trojans managing hits
while James Robinson, Edge, Andre
| Perkins and James Reynolds all
singled for North Brunswick.
Gore picked up his second win of

Craig Johnson came in on relief of
Ludlum in the fifth inning and held
the Bucs hitless in the last two innings.
Knox led taney at the plate going
2-for-3 with four RBIs while Hanes
had two hits in four chances.
Keith Stanley. Derek Long. Scott
Williams and Stevenson had the only
hits for West Brunswick.
Mike Ramer was the winning pitcher
for Laney throwing five innings
and giving up only three hits. Ron
Flowers releived Ramer in the final
two innings. '
Ludlum suffered the loss for West
Brunswick yielding eight hits in five
innings. Ludlum gave up five runs
with tliree being earned.
