PLANNING MEETING for all interested class members to organize a 30thyear
reunion for the Shallotte High School Class of 1955, at Sizzling Sirloin
Steakhouse in Shallotte, 3 p.m. Spokesman Marlene Varnum said this is the
only meeting the group plans to hold, so attendance is very important.
Monday, April 15
LAST DAY TO REGISTER to vote in the Shallotte ABC referendum on May
14. Register at the Brunswick County Board of Elections office in Bolivia,
the West Brunswick Branch Library in Shallotte or with a local registrar.
BRUNSWICK COUNTY COMMISSIONERS meet in regular session in their
chambers, Brunswick County Government Center, 6:30 p.m.

The State Personnel Commission
will review a recommendation that
former Brunswick County Social Services
Director Jamie Orrock be
reinstated when it meets in Raleigh
Tuesday, April 16, at 9 a.m.
Hearing officer Barbara Coward
recommended in October 1984 that
Orrock be reinstated with back pay
because, she said, the social services
board had failed to show that he had
sexually harassed former DSS
employee Donna Hinson Rivenbark
as charged. Orrock had been
dismissed Nov. 30, 1983, on a charge
of sexual misconduct.
Ms. Coward's recommendation,
based on two days of testimony heard
last August, was to have gone to the
Commission on Feb. 5. The review

for a new director. The position
has been vacant since Orrock's
dismissal. DSS Board Chairman Betty
Varnam is the current acting
