Route 2, Reigelwood, were charged
April 11 by Shallotte Police Sgt
Rodney Gause. They are being held
in the Brunswick County Jail under
bonds of $4,500 and $4,000 respectively
At a first appearance in court last
Monday, Chief District Court Judge
William C. Gore Jr. refused to reduce
bond for the couple who are
represented by Holden Beach attorney
Michael Cox.
The suspects are charged with
allegedly attempting to rob James
Luther Smith, 41, of Route 2,
Shallotte, at knifepoint and taking his
1969 Ford van. Police officers
recovered the van and suspects in
Whiteville about an hour after the incident.
The couple will face trial in
Brunswick County District Court on
May 6.
New Judge Seated
Newly-appointed Judge D. Jack
Hooks Jr. of Whiteville held his first
session of court last Thursday in
Brunswick County District Criminal

He replaces Judge Wayne Long of
after being charged with DWI in
Durham. Hooks, 31, was appointed to
the seat by Gov. Jim Martin on April
4.
Joining Hooks for the court session
for the period April 15-18 were Judges
Gore and Lee J. Greer Jr. The fourth
judge in the 13th Judicial District is
Judge Jerry A. Jolly of Tabor City.
