Happy Time In Charlotte

my Swaggart were all enjoyed in the
same weekend by Bcrneatha Gore,
Evelyn and Elbert Gore, Athlea
Williams, Bert and Azalce Johnson,
and I/mice and I-a.Shondn George.
They were guests of Mr. and Mrs.
I<eroy Kennedy and Mr. and Mrs.
Perry Sullivan of Charlotte. While
there they attended the Jimmy Swaggart
Crusade at the Coliseum.
At Heritage USA they toured the
Upper Room, Jerusalem I .and, the
Amphitheatre where they had pictures
made with the Christian clown,
and the Bam where Jim Baker
preached. They saw the old
homestead of evangelist Billy
Graham which is a part of Heritage
Village, being used as a home for
unwed mothers.
Conference Held
The one day district conference enjoyed
one of the largest turnouts in
many years from Bruaswick, Columbus
and New Hanover County Missionary
Baptist churches.

They included Sister Colene Stanley,
stale associate director, and Sister
Phylisa Kelly, state young adult
president.
Both women presented informative
and Inspiring briefings on the young
adult retreat plunneil for June 1 at
J.J. Johnson Baptist ('amp in Uiurcl
HUl. Everyone la invited to take part
in prayer, fellowship and song at the
50-aere camp. The camp's existence
depends upon the support of church
members.
Sister 1 -oulse Ciuu.se was at tier best
as key speaker ut the conference. In
addressing the topic, "A Century of
Witness for Christ," she focused on
scripture from tlie Book of St. Matttiew
(Chapter 24).
Sister Annie 14. Bryant became the
new district chairperson during the
conference business session, replacing
Mrs. Dolores Moore. On a happy
note, the promotion came to Sister
Annie on her birthday.

Institute Held
Friendship Missionary Baptist
Church in Southport, pastorcd by
Kev. Carl Heaves, was the scene of
the most recent institute held.
"I have received great
inspiration," were the words of Jesse
Francis, a retired Brunswick County
school principal who attended the institute.
Barbara T. Hcwett led the group in
study of the book "The Doctrine of
the Holy Spirit," by leavell P. Landrum
II.
All members completing 7 hours or
more were recognized with certificates
signed by Dr. E. Burns

Williams, recipients included the

Puppets Give Message
Church members enjoyed the Sonshine
Puppets ol Trinity Methodist
Church of Southport Tuesday night.
The puppeteers were Mr. and Mrs
James Davis und their son, Clu-is.
Tite theme of the puppet show was
"You Are Special," and emphasized
how Jesus loves each of his children
in a special way.
Mrs. Davis remained after the
show to participate in the study.

John Herbert Royal, 88, of Route 3,
Supply, died April 23 in the
Brunswick Hospital.
The funeral was held Thursday at
Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with Rev.
Cecil Carter and ftev. Texas Holden
officiating. Burial was in the
Georgetown Cemetery.
Royal had been an active member
of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church for 75
years, serving as deacon, Sunday
School teacher and Sunday School
superintendent.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs.
Lillie Clemmons Royal of the home;
his son, Kenwood Royal of
Whiteville; his daughter, Loretta
Hewett of Supply; two grandsons,
Fuller Royal and Sam Royal; and
two granddaughters, DeLana Hewett
and Sibyl Hewett.

Helen Estelle Parker Nichols, 97,
of Ocean Trail Convalescent Center
in Southport, died Saturday following
an extended illness.
A memorial service was to be held
2 p.m. Wednesday graveside in Northwood
Cemetery, with Rev. John
Elder officiating.
Mrs. Nichols was born in Camden,
S.C., on Feb. 26,1888, the daughter of
the late John Laurence and Sarah
Bell Pittman Parker. She was
preceded in death by her son,
Herbert A. Nichols, in 1983. She was a
member of Sniithnort Baptist
Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs.
Mildred Baker of Denver, Colo.; a
granddaughter, Mrs. George E.
(Bonnie) Dosher Sr. of Denver,
Colo.; and a great-grandson, George
E. Dosher Jr. of Joplin, Mo.
LONNIE J. JACKSON
Ixmnic James Jackson, 55, of
Delco, died Thursday in Columbus
County Hospital in Whiteville.
The funeral was held Sunday at
Union Grove Freewill Baptist Church
by Rev. Carey Horrell, with burial In
Columbus Memorial Park.
Jackson was born in Columbus
County, the son of the late Harvey B.
and Minnie Dowless Jackson. He was
a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean
conflict. He was employed by
Federal Paper Board Co. for 17 years
until his retirement in 1976 due to illness.
Jackson is survived by four sons,

Warren Clemmons will be conducted
Sunday, May 5, at 2:30 p.m. at Mt.
Olive Baptist Church.
Rev. Weston Varnam, the pastor,
invites the Dublic to attend. The
church is located on U.S. 17 between
Supply and Bolivia near Brunswick
Technical College.
Clemmons has been called as
pastor of Canetuck Baptist Church,
located in Canetuck community and
affiliated with the Wilmington Baptist
Association. A 1983 graduate of
South Brunswick High School, he is a
member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A.W.
Clemmons of Bolivia and the grandson
of Rev. and Mrs. C.O. Blanton of
Supply and the Rev. and Mrs. Lindsey
M. Clemmons. He is married to
the former Nancy Splawn of
Southport; they have a daughter,
Amanda Marie.
Mission Moves
Parishioners of St. Brendan's
Roman Catholic Mission will
celebrate Mass at Br?nd?n Hall for
the first time this weekend, says
Father John L. Richardson.
"Ready or not, we will hold Mass
there," he said. Construction of the
prefabricated steel structure began
two weeks ago with the pouring of the
concrete foundation by Rooks Construction
Co. On Tuesday, the mission
moved from its temporary location
at the old Carter Restaurant on
U.S. 17.
Mass is scheduled 5 p.m. Saturday
