"I've read it and give my compliments," Commissioner Jim Griffin told the planning board Tuesday. Copies of the final proposed draft were mailed to the commissioners last Friday for review. At a joint meeting of the commissioners and planning board Tuesday, there was virtually no discussion on the updated land use plan. Planning board members have been preparing the document in coordination with theSatilla Planning Corp. of Atlanta, Ga., for months. "I've read it and I don't see anything wrong with it," said Commissioner Gloria Barrett. "Unless someone else lias anything they'd like to change." Virginia R. Bellamy, soil stewardship chairperson for the local soil and water conservation district, reported on national efforts relating to soil stewardship. The program, held at the public assembly building, was directed by Mrs. Bryan (Jackie) Smith, president of the North Carolina Associa tion of Conservation Districts Ladies Auxiliary. Encouraging recognition of the basic importance of soil and water resources is the objective of the special week. The theme for the 1985 program was "Tomorrow Together," focusing on the shared responsibility for stewardship.
