Salt Water Fishing ???? * vui iiciii iciiv. Sessions landed the 51-pound cobia while fishing alone about a mile offshore on May 16. It was weighed at Tripp's Fishing Center at Shallotte Point. Sessions plans to have the fish mounted. Another local fisherman, Paul Fulgham of Wilmington, has also landed a 51-pound cobia since the tournament began in March. Fulgham's April 27 catch was weighed at Missy's Messy Market at Carolina Beach. The two fishermen now share a tie for first place. According to a list of current leaders, as of May 29, Howard Oliver of Myrtle Beach, S.C., retained the lead for the largest Spanish mackerel. His seven-pound, 12-ounee catch was weighed at the Southport Marina and Tackle Shop on April 20. Fishermen catching the largest fish in each of 24 categories will be awarded plaques at the end of the tournament that began March 11 and continues until the fall. Catches must be weighed at an official weighing station. The 11th annual tournament is sponsored by the N.C. Division of Travel and Tourism.
