The Shallotte 1 ions are a member
club of Lions International, the
largest service club in the world wit!
clubs In 58 foreign countries, saic
leonard Ferguson, secretary. Lions
are dedicated to community service,
with emphasis on service to the blind
and deaf. The local club has 50
members, whom he said are
"community-oriented citizens interested
in helping those in the area
who need their support."
Each year the Shallotte I Jons raise
funds for their support to community
agencies by selling brooms, orchids,
fruit cakes at Christmas, and holding
a fish fry at 1-obor Day, with all proceeds
going to the service projects.
The club holds dinner meetings the
first and third Thursdavs of eari
month at 7 p.m.

Dale Gore were married in a 7 p.m.
ceremony on Saturday, June 22, at
Tabor City Baptist Church.
The bride is the daughter of Lt. Col.
and Mrs. James Varnum of Myrtle
Beach, S.C., and the granddaughter
of Cleveland and Louise Gore of
Shallotte, Ada L. Varnum of Shallotte
and Talmadge Varnam of Supply.

Dan Deaton of Tabor City Baptist
Church officiated the double-ring
ceremony. Rev. Jesse Bentley of Jennies
Branch Baptist Church read
scripture and offered a prayer.
Mrs. Phyllis James, soloist and
aunt of the bride, sang "The Wedding
Song" and "The Lord's Prayer."
Also contributing to the program of
music were margarei wiuougnDy,
organist, Penni Ray, flutist: and Jim
Smith, pianist.
Mrs. Waldo Woody directed the
wedding.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a formal gown of
white imported satin. It featured a
basque bodice and sweetheart
neckline heavily appliaued with silk
Venise lace, irridescent sequins and
seed pearls. The poufed satin sleeves
were sprinkled with pearls and the
back bodice was accented with
covered buttons. The skirt had gentle
gathers that flowed into a tulipshaped,
scalloped cathedral train
that was edged in scalloped Venise
lace.
Her headpiece was a coronet of
Venise lace flowers and satin ribbon
with pearls, attached to a cathedral
length veil of illusion sprinkled with
pearls.
She carried a cascading bouquet of
' white roses, gardenias, freesia,
stephanotis and English ivy.
Her matron of honor was Mrs. Victoria
Blackmon of Newport News,
Va. Miss Sandra Varnum of Madrid.
Spain, was maid of honor.
Also attending the bride were Mrs.
Roxanne Wright and Mrs. Rita
Richardson, sisters of the groom:
Miss Dorothy Gore and Miss Angie
Gore of Shallotte, cousins of the
bride; and Miss Karen Suggs, friend
