A collection netted donations of
$931 to the fledgling department,
Malcolm Grissett said.
"It's really remarkable to see that
kind of enthusiasm. We were happy
to see Long wood come in. I think it
will work out real well."
He said the new group was getting
help and advice from other fire
departments, including Sunset Beach
and Waccamaw; District 1 Commissioner
Chris Chappell; Brunswick
County Emergency Management
Coordinator Cecil Logan and others.
At their next meeting, tonight
(Thursday, Aug. 15) at 8 p.m., the
group will begin discussing incorporation
and methods of financing
and will hear from the committees.
As proposed, the district would
serve an area with about 491 structures,
including five churches, one
school and more than 30 businesses.
