Earns Mention Christalla Daniels of Longwood received an honorable mention and a cutting board during the 12th state 4-H Back-to-School Clothing Contest held Aug. 8 in Raleigh. Also competing from Brunswick County were Cynthia Williams and Tabitha Daniels of Longwood and Tania Butler of Shallotte. They were accompanied by Etherine Butler and lena Mae Butler of Shallotte, 4-H leaders; and Pearl W. Stanley, county home economics extension agent. The contest provides an opportunity for youth ages nine to 13 to demonstrate creativity in selecting and constructing a garment in cotton or cotton blend fabric. Participants also attended a variety of fashionrelated workshops. Baptist Conve At Big Macec The Brunswick-Waccamaw Association Sunday School annual convention was held recently at Big Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. 1..R. Keel pastor. theme for the convention was, "The Church As A Family," with one of the highlights the crowning of the new king and queen, Hubert Shipman Jr. and Anne Shipman of New Ught Baptist Church of Hallsboro. The king and queen contest is held to help raise money for the scholarship fund, used each year to award five $300 scholarships to students to further their education. Twelve Sunday schools participated in the convention that was called to order during the Friday morning session by President Haywood McKoy II.
