Page 16-A?THE BRUNSWICK BEAO Atlantic! W.E. "Earl" Bellamy will retire from the Altantic Telephone Membership Corporation on Monday, Sept. 30, after 23 years as general manager. Russell Price of Calabash, a 20-year employee with ATMC, will oiiccccd Bellamy a.-, chief er.ecctivc officer of the state's third largest telephone cooperative and the only one that provides cable television service. ATMC currently serves more than 14,000 telephone customers and 3,500 cable subscribers. Since Bellamy, 63, became general manager many changes and additions have occurred at ATMC. Among these are the replacement of the original aerial plant, an extenaitut Mr?l/irurnnn/l ronctriicli/iii nrru grain, providing, basic four-party service, and the establishment of the iiolden Beach and Calabash-Seaside telephone exchanges in the 60s. An extensive conversion program from four-party to one-party begun in 1969 was completed in 1973. Bellamy was born in Supply on Jan. 22, 1922. He graduated from entered the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in fall 1940. While at UNC he joined the Naval Reserve Officer's Training Corps and on July 1,1943, was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy. He was on active duty until September 1946. In 1954 Bellamy was elected judge of Brunswick County Recorder's Court, and he was re-elected in 1956, 1958, and I960. On March 31, 1962, he resigned and accepted the position of general manager of ATMC.
