Blake, state chairman of conservation for the North Carolina •Society nf Daughters of the American Revolution, presented a program on water conser\'ation at tlie March meeting of the William Cause DAR chapter. “Imagine what it would be like to turn on the tap and find nothing there," she said. “People in some parts of the country know this can iiappen. They are learning how to conserve water. They know that water |c a HrrntoH recAiiroe Water shortages are a local or regional problem today, according to Mrs. Blake, but will someday be a na tional problem. She urged members to practice conservation now and gave several ideas that can be used around the home and farm to conserve water. The DAR will participate in celebration of the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution. Chapter members received greetings and a message from Mrs. Ann D. Fleck, president general of the NSDAR. reminding members to use their vigor, ingenui ty, devotion and loyalty to make 1987 a great year. Mrs. Theodocia Genunons gave the National Defense message. Clemmons Announce Their Firet Child Mr. and Mrs. Michael l.andis CTemmons of Shallotte have an nounced the birth of their first child, Michael Brandon, at Cape Fear Memorial Hospital Jan. 16. Maternal grandparents are Harold and Damella Elvans of Shallotte. Paternal grandparents are Helen Gemmons and the late Billy Gem- mons of Supply. Mrs. Gemmons is the former Denise Evans of Shallotte. Howes, Smith Wed At Shell Point COMPLETE INTERIOR Merkne Hawes and Dean Smith were married Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. at Shell Point Baptist Church in a double-ring ceremony officiated by Rev. Donald nf. Hardwick. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Merell Hawes of Shallotte. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Smith, also of Shallotte. Given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a formal gown of white taffeta with an off-the-shoulder neckline and teg-o‘-mutton sleeves. It featured a bodice of beaded silk venise lace, with a basque waist that flowed into a gathered skirt. The semi-cathedral train was accented with a self-bow and streamers. Her iwo-iicr wu was aiiacheu io a halo of silk flowers and pearls. She carried a bouquet of white roses, daisies and babies' breath. OAfifd Mnore of Shallotte wa.s her sister's matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Phebie McLean, Lori Smith and Teddi Perkins, friends of the bride. They wore floor-length gowns of royal blue taffeta with natural waistline and gathered skirt. It was fashioned with an embroidered bodice, off-the-shoulder neckline, cartridge sleeves and self-tie sash. The groom's father was his best man. Ushers were Dexter Smith and Larry Branch, friends of the groom; Trevor Gore, cousin of the bride; and Ten Earn Blue Ribbons At District Arts Festival Robert Mci>ean, braiher-in-mw of Uic groom. A unity candle, candlelabro and white baskets of white chrysan themums and dalide-s decorated the sanctuary, with arrangements of royal blue candles and magnolia leaves in the wrindows. Wendi Moore was in charge of the guest register, while Suzanne Moore distributed programs. Following the ceremony, a recep tion was given in the church fellowship hall.
