Ground Is Broken At Ocean Isle For 15-Story Oceanfront Project A groundbreaking ceremony Saturday afternoon at Ocean Isle Beach kicked off construction of the first high-rise condominium in Brunswick County. The 15-story structure, named Ocean Point, will be located on the oceariront at the west end of the Island, with views of the ocean, sound and marsh. Developers are Ocean Isle Beach Mayor LaDone W. Bullington and her brother, DeCarol Williamson. Speak ing at the groundbreaking, both assured a large gathering that the project will be one of which the com munity can be proud and one that will be in keeping with the family- oriented resort developed over the years by their father, Odell William son, who bought the island in 1953. According to a news release, pre sales ot units totai more Uiuii 37 million. Some of the owners were present for the groundbreaking Saturday. They were asked by Mayor Bullington to identify themselves by a show of hands. Ocean Point will feature two- and three-bedroom condomlniunns rang ing from 1,392 square feet for the two- bedroom units, and up to 1,985 square feet for thrcc-bcdroom models. The project includes two outdoor swimming pools, an indoor-outdoor pool, extensive decking around the pools, boardwalks to the beach, and a sauna and exercise room. Extras Include a full sprinkler system, cultured marble vardtles, ceramic tile bathroom floors and wet bars. Frank Norman Thompson of Charlotte is amuactar for the pro ject. Little and Associates of Charlotte is the architect, and Gif ford, Nielson and Williams are land planners. “We have assembled the greatest group of professiimals for the project,” said Bullington. Construction on the higivrise is beginning at a time when the town sewer system, which makes this type of project possible, is nearing com- nlption. Ocean Point is one of two high-rise projects on the drawing board at Ocean Isle Beach, and the first one to get underway. Plans to build both of them were announced about a year The other condominium is planned for the middle of the beach by Sloane Realty.
