Ad cock Jr. Scholarship from the creative arts department of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Named for a former UNC-W music professor and conductor of the Wilm ington Symphony, the scholarship is awarded to rising seniors at UNC-W, based on excellence in music, superior academic records and a high standard of performance. Ms. Falor is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe C. Best. Named Runner-Up Kathleen Somers of Long Beach was runner-up in the Elizabeth Gib son Taylor Prose A^ard competition at Peace College in Raleigh this spr ing. Her piece appeared in the college's literary magazine, "The Prism." She is the daughter of Mr. and Mr. Mrs. James R. Somers. Two Win Awards Two North Brunswick High School seniors, Richard Kevin Chaisson and Shannon Varia Crainshaw, will be among the first -tOO students to receive North Carolina Teaching Fellow Awards. The Fellows program is part of a state program to recruit top quality students into teaching. Fellows will receive $5,000 per year awards star ting this fall. In turn, they agree to major in education and teach for at least four years in a North Carolina public school. Completes Training Pvt. Bobby R. Comey learned the duties of a rifle or mortar squad member in one station unit training at the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning, Ga. The 12-week course combined basic combat train ing and advanced individual train ing. He is the son of Bobby R. Comey of St. Pauls and Carol J. Craig of I.eland. Airman Graduates Airman Robert E. Hewett Jr. has graduated from the U.S. Air Force fuels specialist course at Chanute Air Force Base, IlL A1985 graduate of West Brunswick High School, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Newton Cited Resha Newton of North Brunswidc High School in Leland is a merit award winner in the Seventh Con gressional District Art Show com petition sponsored by Congression Charlie Rose. The annual competition was open to all high schools in the district, with 114 entries .submitted. A painting by John Russell of Fayetteville, the winning entry, will hang in the U.S. Capitol with those of winners from other districts. Earns PSU Degree Barry Leonard of Shallotte was smong 294 students to receive bachelor degrees from Pembroke State University at Pembroke on May 9. Attends Course Jeff Long of Longwood was among 32 young tobacco farmers who at tended a four-day tobacco short course conducted by the N.C. Agricultural Ex tension Service with the help of a grant-in-aid from Philip Morris, USA. The course included an all-day bus trip from Raleigh to Richmond, Va., to visit the Philip Morris leaf processing, manufacturing and research facilities. Brown Graduates P\t. 1st Class J.T.
