Brown addressed the mothers of Cedar I Grove Mis sionary Baptist I Church during I the morning wor- I ship service on I Mother's Day. She is the I daughter of I Deacon John H. 'and Lena Johnson and has a son, Jack, who is a law student at the University of North Carciha at Chape! Kill. Other participants Sunday were Martell Bryant, son of James Hobson and Laura Mazelle Bryant; Annie R. Bryant, morning prayer; Pencie Bryant, scripture reading; and Ber tha Bell, who pinned a corsage on 100-ycar-old Aunt Sophia “Mattie” Bryant, the oldest mother and member of the church. Clean-Up Slated Cedar Grove Community Improve ment Association will hold its clean up and beautification campaign Saturday, March 23, starUng at 8:30 a.m. Participants are asked to meet at the church. Non-members are in vited to help also. Baptisms Noted Lakila, Jerry and Calvin Hewett were baptized on May 17, with many visitors present. On Sunday, May 24, Octavius Hewett, son of Percy Mayfield and Margret Hewett will be baptized dur ing the 11 a.m. worship service, with the public invited to attend. Contest Rescheduled Ocean View Association has rescheduled its annual Sunday School contest this year. It will be held on May 31, the fifth Sunday, at S p.m. at Little Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church In Supply, In conjunc tion with the regularly scheduled filth Sunday sing. Association members and the general public are invited. Winners of the competition receive scholarships. Worship In New Jersey Rev. Samuel Stanley and 32 members of the Thomasboro com munity motored recently by vans to Trentm, N.J., to present the after noon service at Beauty Grove Baptist Churchy vshcrc Hsy. Clssissn L^ssc^ Is pastor. On Sunday morning tliey visited Jerusalem Baptist Church, where area natives Rev. C.E. Sinith and Evangelist Helen Turner Smith (my sister) are members. Mission In Action Arvella Marlowe, L^Milse Gause, Etherine and Tania Butler were guests at New Light Baptist Church in Hallsboro to witness the presenta tion of "Youth Giving Their Best” That is a one-day youth conference by the Brunswick-Waccatnaw Mis sionary Baptist Association. Comings Ana Goings Mildred L. Station and Ada R. Bostick of Pikesville, Md. and Evangelist Helen Sith of Trenton, N.J., visited their mother, Cara Lee Turner of Bolivia, over Mother's Day weekend. They worshipped at St John Missionary Bap&t Church, where the men prepared an early morning prayer breakfast and an afternoon luncheon for the entire con gregation. Yours truly delivered the children's ministry during the morn ing service. The 2 p.m. service was called “Ibe (Confederation of Choirs” and featured spiritual singing by 12 churches of various denominations organized in the late 1950s. The monthly singing convention has continued for more than a quarter of a century without any church having withdrawn. Certificates Awarded Rebecca Johnson, Joyce Hewett, Mary E. Bernard, Doris Belton, Rev. Raymond Smith and yours truly received attendance awards from the Woman's Home and Foreign Mis sionary Baptist State Covention for participation in the annual mis sionary institute May 11-15 at SL James Missionary Baptist Church. Friday’s service included a sum mary by Mary E. Bernard and a ser mon by Rev. Ronnie McCrae Jr., whose wife and mother also shared testimonies. Distribution will be in the public assembly building at the Brunswick County Government Complex in^ American Legion Gives To Scouts Boy Scout Troop 287 of Brunswick County was recently presented a check for $500 by Commander Jim Buffaloe on behalf of American Legion Post 247. Buffaloe said his post sponsors the troop, and the men are proud of the boys' accomplishments. "We wanted to do something for them,” he said.
