County's Top Students Recognized At Banquet
More than 100 students of
Brunswick County high schools were
recognized last week as "the very
best” and encouraged to keep on b^
ing the best at a banquet in their
honor June 4, at South Brunswick
Middle School.
Words of praise and support came
from Superintendent Gene Yar
brough. School Board Chairman
James Forstner, and Board Member
Doug Baxley, for 108 students who
gathered with their families at the
annual Superintendent’s Award Ban
quet.
Each winner received an engraved
trophy in the fonn of a gold lamp on a
marble base.
“Too often kids are recognized for
bad things they do," Forstner told
the audience, “so it’s nice to con
gratulate them for the good things.”
Baxley urged the winners to resist
peer pressure and continue on the
path of excellence.
A surprise award came to parents
from Yarbrough, who had designed
bumper stickers, reading, “We won a
student achievement award from the
Brunswick County schools."
He said, “Next year, we’re going to
expand that to grandparents.”
Honors came in many categories,
ranging from the “A" honor roll to
winners of state competition, and in
cluding recognition in national pro
grams.

highest number of honors, totalling
five. These included: a Morehead
