Thomasboro. He is a freshman at
N.C. State University in Italeigh,
pursuing a major in automotive
engineering.

black and orange short-haired cat,
spayed, declawed and housebroken.
Also available are a male Herman
shepherd/luLsky mixed breed dog,
black and cream and l‘-j to two years
old; and a large, male mixed poodle,
more than a year old.
These pets can be seen between 8
a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through
Friday at the shelter, located off N.C.
211 south of Supply.
County Band
Seeks Members
The Brunswick County Band is
looking for more members in the
southern part of the county.
Anyone able to read music,
regardless of age, is free to join.
Band meetings are held every Tues
day night at Trinity United Methodist
Church in Southport.

ABWA Chapter Elects New Officers
Two Brunswick County students

Academy in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Suzanne Fazekas was elected to
the nine-member Lower School Stu
dent Council and Clark Callahan was
elected to tlie 16-member Middle
School Student Council.
New officers have been elected for
the coming year by the Brunswick
Charter Chapter of the American
Business Women’s Association.
Helen Street of Shallotte was
elected president. Other officers in
clude Kaye Evans, vice-president;
l.ani Clark, secretary; .Mary Owens,
treasurer: and Judi Pridgen, cor
responding secretary.
The chapter invites all prnfe.ssional
and business women in tlie county to
attend its Octol)er 15 meeting, to be
held at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of

Volunteer Work Brings Notice To Couples Club
Shallotte Lions met at Tavern on
the Toe at .Sunset Beach on Oct. 1 for
an official visit from Di.sirict Gover
nor Glenn Bunch and the club’s an
nual ladies’ night.
Bunch charged the Lions to remain
involved from the club level to inter

club at the Brunswick County
Volunteer and Information Center
annual volunteer awards dinner in
September.

tonight (Thursday) from 5:30 p.m. to

Begins Sales
The 92 members of the West
Brunswick High School FBIjA Club
begin their annual sale of “Tom
Watts” stocking staffers this week.
Sales continue through Oct. 16, said
club sponsor Virginia Winfree.
Proceeds are used to pay for
members of the Future Business
I>eaders of America Club to compete
in district, state and national con
tests.
The club has a goal of increasing
its membership to 100, so that it may
enter two contestants in various
events rather than one.
Funds left at the end of each year
in the past have been used to pur
chase office equipment for the
school, said Mrs. Winfree.
BCC Seeks Nursing
Assistant Students
Brunswick Community College is
compiling a waiting list of in
dividuals interested in taking a nurs
ing assistant course to be offered dur
ing in the Shallotte/Supply area.
The nursing assistant performs
simple health care procedures such
as bathing and feeding patients, pro
viding comfort measures, positioning
patients, observing and recording
vital signs and collecting specimens.

At the .September meeting. Bill
Dunn gave a program and quiz on the
Bill of Rights, the Articles of Con
federation and the U.S. Constitution,
circulating related pictures and
literature.
The club voted to .send a contribu
tion to Hope Harbor Home, a shelter
being established in the county for
battered women and their children.
.Members welcomed the return of
.Mary Ru.ss, club counselor, who has
away at .school during the summer,
and Mrs. Dunn turned over her gavel
to incoming president .Mice Perkis.
After the meeting, the Dunns seiz
ed brunch.
On Oct. 7, club memtiers carpooled
on a trip to Duplin County to visit the
Duplin W’inery in Rose Hill and the
Kenan Home.
