Snow Angel' Opens Reid's Second College Season

A "bittersweet play about love-
opens Brunswick Technical Colle(>c
Visitins Artist Pamela Heicl’s second
season at the school.
-Snow AnKcl," a one-act. hour-lonn
play by L.J. Carlino and directed by
DeFoy Glenn, will Ik- presented
Saturday, Oct. 10. at 7:;)0 p.m. i„ the
public assembly building at the
Brunswick County Clovernment
Center in Bolivia.
It features Ms. Reid as Connie, a
working girl" who experiences "a
most unusual encounter" with a john
named John, portrayed by Jesse
Hamilton, a Charlotte actor
a.s.sociated with GM Proluetinns.
Reid describes the male character
as an "uptight, straight-laced in
tellectual type out for an evening of
paid-for fun," the kind of man who
would have trouble asking for a date,
but several times a year, in despera
tion, seeks paid companioitship.
The characters are opposites, with
John the tradition upper-class citizen
and Connie, the lower-class. She's u.s-
ed to a lot of different kinds of people,
but nothing like this client.
It's a play with a provocative twLst.
"By the end you see a complete
turn around in characters." said
Reid. "You find yourself wondering
who Ls really the prostitute.
"In reality, all of us occasionally
prostitute ourselves—to get a raise or
whatever."
The title comes from “snow
angels" (,'onnie made as a child from
the stsow. "It doesn't make .sen.se un
til you hear her explain it," said Ms.
Reid.
Tliere is no admission charge to see
".Snow Angel."
"It's open to anyone who would like
to go see a play; it's an opportunity to
.see professional acting."
".Snow Angel" is the first of four
public productions Ms. Reid plans
during the coming school year In
February, a .second Black Art.s
Festival will be held, followed by an
"old-fa.shioned .May Day celebration
witli a .May Pole anil children .skipp
ing out and everything." and a
showca.se of talent by Visiting .Artists
from acro.ss the state community col
lege system, possibly at Holden
Beach, where she lives.
.Ms. Reid .said she agreed to return
for a .second year at Brunswick
Technical ('ollege iK-cause she ap
preciates the ireedom to create that
she's found possible here.
However, the Im ation does h.ive its
limitations on her activities-a lack
of an auditorium for full-fledged
theater productions, for one. .Much of
