3rd Safety Tree
Members of the Pilot Club of South
Brunswick Islands want Brunswick
County motorists to drive defensively
during the long holiday season
ahead.
As a reminder the club will light,
for the third consecutive year, a holiday
"safety" tree on the front lawn of
the main United Carolina Bank office
in Shallotte, said club spokesman
Gail Seagle.
The tree will be decorated as in the
past in all white lights. But this year,
when a fatality occurs on a county
roadways, she added, a white bulb
will be replaced with a red one to
mark the death. "We want to remind
motorists to drive safely and defensively
and to avoid drinking and driving,"
she said. Sherry Roseman, projects
coordinator, is in charge of the
effort.
The public is invited to the treelighting
ceremony, which will be held
Sunday, Nov. 20, at 5:30 p.m. at the
bank on U.S. 17. Local Girl Scouts
will sing Christmas carols and Pilot
President Kay Couvillon will comment
on the project.
