Compassion , Consideroiion Shown
To the editor:
On behalf of residents of Sea
side Station and Shoreline Woods, I
want to express our sincere
appreciation to Paul Dennis and Ed
Gore of Sea Trail Corp. for the
compassion and kind consideration
shown us on Christmas day when
we were virtually paralyzed by the
worst snow storm in the history of
southeastern North Carolina.
Realizing the seriousness of the
situation, they tried to get assistance
from the Slate Department of Trans
portation, but to no avail.
They did not give up but rented
roadway equipment, contacted op
erators, organized work crews and
went to work scraping snow from
miles of Highway 179, Sunset
ticacn ana many roads in residential
areas, including the nine miles in
Seaside Station and Shoreline
Woods, thus making it possible for
those who needed medical treat
ment to use their cars and opening
the roads to emergency equipment
such as fire trucks and rescue
squads.
Above all, by scraping the roads
they also removed the fear and
anxiety we felt when we realized
we were unable to negotiate the
snow-filled roads if an emergency
oc-curred.

comment on two transplanted
Northerners and their criticism of
the use of the word "sludge" in the
Charlotte Observer editorial the
