Nine Students Enter ACT-SO
Scholarship Competition

Brunswick County vie Saturday for
a S500 scholarship in the annual
Martin Luther King ACT-SO com
petition, which starts at 7 p.m. at
Bolivia Elementary School.
Willie Fullwood of Shallottc will
serve as master of ceremonics. He is
director of adulf basic education and
general education development pro
grams at Brunswick Community
College, where he is also the affir
mativc action officcr. Fullwood also
serves as a radio announcer for
WDZD Radio Station.
ACT-SO is the acronym for Afro
Academic Cultural Technological
Scientific Olympics, a program de
signed to encourage academic ex
cellence among black youths.
Competing for a $500 scholar
ship and the opportunity to compete
for a $1,000 national scholarship
will be these teen-agers:

Authors Wednesday, April 25, in
celebration of National Library
Week.
During the 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. event
at the BCC learning resource center,
several published authors from
Brunswick County will read from
their works and speak on the pro
cess of having work published.
