Trojans March To 8th Straight Victory; Top Aggies For School's 300th Win JOHNNY CRAIG West Brunswick began a well -de served, eight-day break from the prep hardcourt last week after sweeping a pair of nonconfcrencc eatnes trom Williams Township and Wii lace-Rose Hill The Trojans took a 69-36 rout over host Williams Township on Tuesday and whipped Wallace-Rose Hill 71 -49 on Wednesday. The win over Williams marked the 3(X)th hoys* cage w in in scIkx>1 history. West Brunswick, now sporting a jvrfect 8-0 record, w ill resume play Thursday. Dec. 27. facing Pleasure Ridge l'aik (Louisville. Ky.) in a pre-tournament game of the 10th annual Beach Ball Classic prep bas ketball tournament at Myrtle Beach. S C. (Socastcc High Schixil) at 3 p.m. Wallace-Rose Hill A 9-0 spurt during the third quar ter enabled the Trojans to shake up set-minded Wallace-Rose Hill and to top the Bulldogs for the second time this season last Wednesday. The scoring spree helped West Brunsw ick to an II -point lead and the Trojans coasted to the 22-point win and their eighth straight this season without a loss. "We just sort of came alive in the third quarter," said West Brunswick coach Billy Minis. "The game was a lot closer than the final score indi cated. Our defense caused some turnovers and got some easy baskets during the scoring run." "We played good defense in the first half but had a thrcc-niinutc cold spell in the first quarter that we didn't score and another scoring drought in the second period that hurt" Wallacc-Rosc Hill led 11-10 in the first quarter before the Trojans used a 23-point second period to take a 33-27 halltime advantage. "Ricky Daniels had another out standing game and LaPerry Hill re turned to the lineup to contribute with a few steals and some good de fensive play." Hill scored 23 points against Southern Wayne two weeks ago in his first start but suffered a cut near his eve in practice two days later and was forced out of action until Wednesday's contest. The Trojans used a 24-11 edge in the third period to blow the game open, taking a 57-38 lead at the end of the quarter. West Brunswick went on to outscorc the Bulldogs 14-11 in the final period to preserve the victory. "We got good, overall play from Aldwin Lance. Patrick Hughes and Jerry Reeves. Lonnie Mitchell play ed the entire fourth quarter with four fouls and did very well to stay in the game." added Minis. Daniels led the Trojans with 31 points and Reeves added 12. Alvin Pratt, who scored 36 points in the Trojans' first game against Wallace-Rose Hill, was held to 21 points. Gary Brown added nine tor the Bulldogs. "Hill, Lancc and Jerome Mar lowe. all did an excellent job in keeping constant pressure on Pratt They denied hint the ball and pre vented him from having another fantastic performance against us," said Mints. Wallace-Rose Hill was without the services of head coach Larry Shepard who's wife was scheduled to have a baby. The Bulldog assis tant coaches handled the coaching duties. Williams Township There was hardly any question whether the Trojans would capture win number 3(H) in last Tuesday's 69-36 romp of the host Aggies?on ly a matter of the final scoring mar gin. West Brunswick jumped out to a 17-3 first-quarter lead and Williams Township never got closer. "For some reason we seem to play heticr on the road than at home," said Minis following the game. "We got on Williams Township early and causcd turnovers but we still can im prove in certain areas." "We probably play better on the mail becausc our home crowds have been so large thus far this season anil the kids want to play so gtxxl for them. We just seem to have trou ble relaxing and just going out and playing our best when we are at home." The West Brunswick margin grew to 17 points at halftinic, 30 13, and the Trojans increased their advantage to 54-24 at the end of the third quarter. Trojan reserves outscored the Aggies 15-12 in the final period. "Everyone got a chance to plav at least one full quarter tonight," added Minis.
