Man Ordered Behind Bars For Letting Dog Run Loose A man whose pit bull dog was im pounded by South port animal con trol officers must spend three days behind bars himself. Lcroy Jolly, of North Caswell Ave., Southport, was charged Nov. 9 with violating city ordinances by al lowing his dog to run at large within town limits and for not having proof that the dog had been vaccinatcd. He pleaded guilty in Brunswick County District Court last week and was ordered to spend three days in the Brunswick County Jail and fined $100 by Judge Jerry A. Jolly. He was given a 30-day suspended sen tence ami placed on unsupervised probation for five years and ordered to begin serving a three-day active term immediately. According to the criminal sum mons, Southport animal control offi cer Charles McClain charged Jolly for not registering the pit bull dog, not placing a tag and collar on the dog, allowing the dog to run at large, and not having proof that the dog had been vaccinatcd. McClain filed a statement that said he received a call from a Southport resident who reported the dog kept crossing the street in front of Dosher Memorial Hospital on the afternoon of Nov. 9 and almost got struck by a car several times. The officer found the "brindle and white" pit bull in front of the EZ Way Grocery story, "barking at peo ple when they came by," McClain stated. He transferred the animal to the Southport animal shelter. After being notified, the defendant paid the S6 fee to pick up the dog, but later that day demanded a refund from the city hall.
