Anna Jennings Elliott. She was
married to the late Luther A. Hoell
man. She was a homemaker and a
Catholic.
Survivors include a son, John R.
Hocllntan of Calabash; twe broth
ers, Edward Elliott of Silver
Springs, Md., and Herbert Elliott of
Plymouth, Mass.: four grandchil
dren and five grcat-grandchildrcn.

Crystal Michelle Crabtree, 14, of
Holiday Ranches, Route 1, Supply,
died Dec. 24 in New Hanover Me
morial Hospital, Wilmington. She
was a freshman at West Brunswick
High School.

He was a son of the late Jacob
Melvin and Carrie Ellen Gray Hew
eu. He had reared from the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers. He was a
commercial fisherman, a merchant
and an employee of the Town of
Shallotte for many years. He was a
charter member of Calvary Baptist
Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lydia

Alma G. (Beuy) Watt of Ocean
Isle Beach died Dec. 27 in The
Brunswick Hospital, Supply.

Dec. 31 at Camp United Methodist
Church in Shallotte.
Mrs. Watt was a graduate of
Earsline College and held a mas
ter's degree from Peabody College
of Nashville, Tenn. Until her retire
ment she was employed by Crystal
Lake, Illinois, School District No.
155 as a librarian.
Survivors include her husband,
Robert J. Watt Jr. of the home; a
son, Robert J. Watt II of Crystal
Lake, 111.; a daughter, Carol Toni
Watt of Shallotte Point; and two
grandchildren.

Edward H. Pate, 72, of Route 3,

bus County Hospital.

was in Dyson Cemetery in Ivanhoe.
Pate was bom ir. Atkinson to the
late Edward H. and Myrtle Meshaw
Pate. He was a veteran of World
War II, having served with the 82nd
Airborne. He retired from South
eastern Community College in 1983
as a welding instructor.

Bryant Scheduled For Baptism

Jessie Bryant, best known locally
as president of the Cedar Grove
Chapter of the
National Associ
ation for the
Advancement of
Colored People
(NAACP) will
be baptized on
the first Sunday
of the New Year
at Cedar Grove
Missionary
Baptist Church.
The service, which will take
place during the morning worship
service, will be led by the Rev.
Freeman Gausc, pastor, and officers
and members of the church. Friends
of Bryant are invited to attend, and
other candidates for baptism are
wclcome also.
Bryant greeted the Rev. Gause
and deacons of Cedar Grove in un
usual fashion Sunday, Dec. 22, after
which minister Levi Grissett an
nounced Bryant's decision earlier
that day to give his heart and life to
his maker, who had given him 68
years of physical life and health.
That announcement prompted re
joicing among the congregation and
special testimony from Bobby John
son of Detroit, Mich., son of the late
Floyd and Magdeline Johnson.
Council Meets At Longwood
Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist
Church in Longwood and its pastor,
the Rev. Moses Clyde Herring, will
host the Monday, Jan. 7, meeting of
the Ocean View Council. The meet
ing will start at 7 p.m., with Irene
Hankins, senior president, in charge.
Departmental officers will partic
ipate in decision-making for the
1991 fiscal year.
