Chef Shows The Way To Boost Tourism Here BY SUSANNE D. SARTELLE, EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT South Brunswick Islands Chamber Of Commerce If you don't have time to do it right, then how are you going to have lime to do it over again? I have been working diligently on the 1-40 Blitz -that's our new project which is a joint effort with the Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce to "blitz" 22 different towns along Interstate 40 the first week of March. During the week, we will host breakfasts, luncheons, socials, speak at civic clubs, speak on radio and television and offer newspaper interviews. In my workings with various establishments throughout the state, I spoke with the chef at the Rolling Pin Bakery and Cafe in Ashcvillc. 1 was SARTELLE planning a breakfast for representatives from the Ashevillc chamber and 1 asked him about tipping his waiters. He said he did not require a 15 percent gratuity as most places do because 'TIP = To Insure Promptness." Therefore, if their servers were prompt and courteous, we could leave a tip as we wished, he said. Wow! I'll bet his servers arc the most courteous and prompt around. That same chef also told me his favorite quote and his philosophy. And it's true: "if you don't have time to do it right, then how arc you go ing to have time to do it over again?" We are going on this 1-40 Blitz to invite people from all across the state to visit Brunswick County. I would like to think that when they get here, our servers, store clerks and all of us will be as courteous to them as I think they will be to us in Ashcvillc. The blitz will be hurried. We will be talking with people about our area from early morning until late at night, and we will be promising a fun time if they vacation here. Sincc everybody doesn't always come to Brunswick County, we're taking Brunswick County to them. Then we're sure they'll comc. The support from our community has been overwhelming thus far. Thanks to your help and encouragement, all our efforts will pay off. BUSINESS BRIEFS Local Board Of Realtors Adopts National Theme The Brunswick Islands Board of Realtors has adopted the new Na tional Association of Realtors theme, "The Voice for Real Estate," to help communicate to the public the skills and services of Realtors. "Our new umbrella theme will help the public differentiate Real tors from other real estate agents, and by choosing representatives of the 'The Voice for Real Estate,' buyers and sellers are assured of re ceiving service by professionals who are bound by a strict code of ethics," says Terry Barbce, presi dent. "Furthermore, our new theme un derscores the fact that Realtors can provide the latest advice on real es tate matters from new financing al ternatives to changes in the housing market," Barbee continued. The Brunswick Islands Board and its 124 members representing 44 real estate firms in south Brunswick County are members of the National Association of Real tors, the country's largest trade as sociation. Barbce says the national associa tion's new theme is based on over 80 years of pioneering efforts in real estate education and research. With more than 800,000 members in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, the national association provides a strong, unified voice on economic, legal, legislative and reg ulatory issues that affect real estate, he said. Attends Conference Ricky Parker, former chairman of the Brunswick County Board of Health and president of FAR Development Co., a local land de velopment firm, attended the fifth annual on-site sewage treatment conferencc recently at N.C.
