Student Winners Advancing To District Aiis Festival
Eighteen students from western
Brunswick County will advance to
district competition Feb. 23 in the
N.C. Federation of Women's Clubs
annual arts competition.
They won blue ribbons in the vi
sual and performing arts and litera
ture in the local competition held
Feb. 4 by the Shallotte Junior Wo
men's Club.
Participants were seventh grade
students and above from Shallotte
Middle, Waccamaw Elementary
and West Brunswick High schools,
said Meleta Humbert, coordinator.
Students competed in varying age
divisions and categories.
First, second, third and honor
able mention awards were present

a resolution of support for U.S. mil
itary forces in the Persian Gulf at a
meeting Feb. 7 in Raleigh.

bers attended a "Becoming a One
Minute Manager" seminar last week
sponsored by the N.C. Department
of Community Colleges Professional
Program Development Services.
The seminar was designed lo help
academic administrators and faculty
leaders adapt the one-minute man
ager approach to goal setting, super
vising faculty and staff and manag
ing problems.
The BCC staff participated in
self-assessment of leadership skills
and problems and discussed how to
eliminate identified problems.

from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at
Bolivia Elementary School.

Brunswick County Health Depart
mcnl and the Brunswick County
Schools.
Rita Halchcr, health educator with
the county health department, said
topics to be covered will includc
mammograms, alcohol and drugs,
nutrition, exercise, health and safety,
blood pressure and heart disease.
