Lady Trojans Top South Brunswick For County Championship BY JOHNNY CRAIG Becky Buffkin scored the win ning basket with 39 seconds re maining last Friday to give the West Brunswick girls a 53-52 Waccamaw 2-A Conference basketball win over visiting South Brunswick in the fi nal night of the league's regular sea son. The win also gave the Lady Trojans (9-5, 16-6) the county cage championship after having defeated South Brunswick in an earlier con test this season along with winning both games against North Brunswick. Earlier in the week (Tuesday) the West girls took a 63-47 win over host East Bladen. West Brunswick finished the WC regular season in a three-way tie for second place with Whitcvillc and South Brunswick ,?? a!l three ended with 9c lfiagu- records. LADY COUGS ALSO TRIUMPH South Brunswick Boys Clinch WC Title Against Whiteville The South Brunswick boys' bas ketball team captured the school's first-ever league cage championship in last Tuesday's 72-70 edging of visiting Whiteville in Waccamaw 2 A Conference play. The Cougars also capped their newly-claimed league title in last Friday's 74-72 win over West Brunswick (see story this section) which gave South Brunswick (14-0) a perfect WC record as the regular season came to a close. The South Brunswick girls com pleted the sweep of Whiteville with a 45-43 in the preliminary game. It was the Lady Cougars second win this season over Whiteville. Preston McGriff scored 21 points to lead South Brunswick while Josh White added 19 and Carl Parker 10. Tony Wilson and Andre Spicer led all five Whiteville starters in double figure scoring with 15 points each. Lamont Smith followed with 13 points while Carlos Baldwin added 12 and Gerald Hemingway 1 1 for the Wolfpack (7-5, 14-6).
