County Churches Conduct Special Services In Preparation For Easter Area churches arc preparing for Easier and the celebration of Oirist's resurrection with a variety of Holy Week worship opportunities that in clude cantatas. Holden Beach Mission The choir of Holden Beach Bap tist Mission presents the cantata It Took A Miracle, by John Peterson, Sunday, March 24, at 7 p.m. at the mission on Holden Beach Road. Kit Jackson will be directing the musical. The church is located next to True Value Hardware. The Rev. Jack Hancox is pastor. Sabbath Home Sabbath Home Baptist Church will begin Passion Week with the musical. Alive. Directed by I>ou Midgctt, the mu sical will be presented Sunday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m. at the church, which is located on Sabbath Home Church Road near the Holden Beach Causeway. Oceanview PFW Oceanvicw Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church near Holden Beach will retrace the final week of Jesus* ministry with special services the week of March 24-31. On Sunday, Dwarka Ramphal, in terim pastor, will remember Palm Sunday in his 6:30 p.m. message at the church, which is located on Hol den Beach Road at Silver Hill. Weekday services will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will feature a differ ent speaker each night: Monday, Richard Heil will focus on Bethany to Jerusalem; Tuesday, Harold Var num on Jesus' last teachings; Wed nesiay, Ray Carlisle will discuss the plot and Christ's concern for others. Thursday the church will re-enact the Last Supper and the washing of the disciples' feet. On Friday, the focus will be on Christ's crucifixion and death. St. James Episcopal Two celebrations of the Eucharist begins a full week of services at St James The Fisherman Episcopal Church in Shallotlc. On Sunday, March 24, no church school will be held. The Holy Eucharist, Rite 1, will be celebrated at 8:15 a.m., followed at 10:30 a.m. by the Liturgy of the Palms. The second service will be gin with a procession from the pray er and memorial garden into the church. Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday, followed by a light breakfast. Also on Wednesday, the devotion of darkness, Tenebre, will be con ducted with readings from Scripture with a candle ceremony in which the lights are successively extin guished. On Maundy Thursday the 6 p.m. service will begin with the Scdar, the Passover meal, with the Holy Eucharist at 7:45 p.m. followed by the stripping of the altar. On Good Friday the church will be open from noon to 3 p.m. for de votions, the Good Friday liturgy and the devotion of the Stations of the Cross at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Holy Saturday liturgy will be at 10 a.m. Camp Methodist Camp United Methodist Church in Shallottc plans two inspirational services in preparation for Easter. The first is a Maundy Thursday serve at 7 p.m. March 28. A Good Friday service is planned at 7 p.m. March 29. The church is located on Main Street in Shallottc. The Rev. George Speake is the pastor. Bonaparte Baptist Bonaparte Baptist Church will host an Easter cantata. The Promised Redeemer, to be presented Sunday, March 24, at 7 p.m. by First Baptist Church of Boiling Spring Lakes. Zion Methodist Zion United Methodist Church at Town Creek offers a full schedule of Holy Week services, said spokes man Ralph Frazier, beginning Palm Sunday with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m? worship at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Lynnwood Boyette of Bcthel-Leb anon Circuit in Columbus County. The Rev. Donnie Jones and the choir of St. John's United Methodist Church in Wilmington will be guests at the 7:30 p.m. service Mon day. The Rev. George Spcakc, pas tor of Camp United Methodist Church in Shallotte, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Wednesday's scrvice, also at 7:30 p.m., will fea ture the Rev. At least four community Easier egg hunts are scheduled over the next two weekends, and the famed rabbit is expected to stop at two of them. The Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Department's annual egg hunt is Saturday, March 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the government center in Bolivia. The hunt is open to children ages nine and under, and participants should bring their own baskets. Spokesperson Emma McGraw said door prizes, candy, and eggs will be provided to all particiants. The Easter Bunny is expcctcd to stop by and talk with the kids. Also as part of the spring holiday, the parks and recreation department is sponsoring an after-school arts and crafts program for kids ages 6 to 13. The program schedule is as fol lows: Friday, March 22, Lcland Li brary; Monday, March 25, West Brunswick Branch Library, Shallot te; and Wednesday, March 27, Soulhporl Library. The hour-long program starts at 4 p.m. each day. Kids will make bun nies and ducks and dye eggs. All materials are provided, and there is no charge. Long Beach The Easter Bunny is also expect ed to hop through Middlcton Park at Long Bcach Sunday, March 24, when the Long Bcach Parks and Recreation Department holds a pup pet show and egg hunt. An Easter puppet show, "Care takers of Imagination," starts at 2 p.m. at the park. It is funded in part through a grassroots grant obtained by the Brunswick County Arts Council. The egg hunt follows the puppet show and is open to children ages 10 and under. Hunt times will be staggered: age 3 and under, 2:30 p.m.; ages 4 to 6, 2:45 p.m.; and ages 7 to 10, 3 p.m. Kids should bring their own bas ket. Calabash Calabash Volunteer Fire Depart ment and Calabash VFW Post 7288 will sponsor eggs hunts next week end for youngsters who live in the Calabash area. The VFW post has scheduled its hunt Saturday, March 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the post, located on Carter Road in Calabash. Spokesperson Mary Benes said children up to 10 years old arc invit ed to participate. The fire department's annual hunt is scheduled Easter Sunday, March 31, at 2 p.m. It's open to children of all ages.
