ANN ABBOTT, GAYLE STANLEY and owner Paula Stanley are all smiles at the A Touch of Ele gance booth, winner of the "Most Attractive" booth award. Brunswick Living Show They came. They looked. They questioned. They looked again. This year's Brunswick Living Home Show drew se rious lookers, reports Margaret Means, the executive for the South Brunswick Islands Home Builders Associa tion, sponsor of the annual event. Thirty-four commercial exhibitors plus a number of professional groups and non-profit organizations dis played their wares and services Friday through Sunday at the show. Their booths showcased the best in interior design, home construction, appliances, furnishings and services. This year's event returned to the N.C. National Guard Armory in Shallotte, drawing a larger attendance than it did a year ago at Sea Trail Plantation, Mrs. Means indicated. Mrs. Means said one booth that offered a prize drawing drew registrations from up and down the East Coast. "Apparently we picked up either people traveling through or a lot of tourists in the area," she said. In any event, the people who attended this year's show meant business. "They were interested in what they were seeing. They were serious lookers," said Mrs. Means. "They weren't just walking through to see what prizes they could register for." As a result, the event closcd with exhibitors and sponsors well pleased with the immediate results and with the potential for future business transactions with showgoers. "I think all of the exhibitors were pleased," said Mrs. Means. "We were all very pleased." In addition to the 34 commercial booths, other ex hibitors included the South Brunswick Islands Board of Realtors, the South Brunswick Islands Home Builders Association, Shallotte Volunteer Rescue Squad, Brunswick County Literacy Council, Brunswick Adult Day Care Center and the South Brunswick Islands Chamber of Commerce. The South Brunswick Isles Civitan Club offered hotdogs Friday and Saturday of the three-day show. Planning for next year's show will begin earlier than in the past, said Mrs. Means, with the idea of tak ing booth registrations in January. The association, of which Randy Hurst is president, is eyeing a Feburary date for the 1992 show. "We hope to hold it when the weather's bad," said Mrs. Means. "When the weather's good, people here have so many outside things to do. But in the winter they're looking for something to do." aiArr muiO BY DOUG RUTTEI CHAIRMAN STEVE MANN opens the 1991 Brunswick living Home Show with the cutof a saw as Randy Hurst, president of the South Brunswick Islands Home Builders Association, and Sarah Tripp, mayor of Shallotte, look on.
