Tiny Miss Fourth of July will be crowned Saturday, June 15, in the first N.C. Little Miss Fourth of July Pageant. The pageant will begin at 3 p.m. at South Brunswick Middle School and will feature a full program of guest performances in addition to the contests. Serving as mistress of ceremonies will be Wendy Williams Jones, a former Miss Brunswick County and first runner-up to Miss North Carolina 1990. During the party dress competi tion, contestants will be escorted by military ser vice personnel in dress uniform. Entries were limited to 10 girls in each catego ry, said spokesman Linda Brinson. All are from Brunswick County. Tiny Miss is for girls ages 3 to 5 and Little Miss, ages 6 to 8. Among those scheduled to entertain are 1990 Little N.C. Little Miss Allison Barrett Phelps, who will perform a jazz dance to On the Way Up; N.C. Spot Festival Princcss Amy Balderson of Wilmington, who will perform a lyrical jazz, rou tine; Tiny Miss N.C. Christmas Annie McLcod, who will dance to Johnnie B. Goode and Walk the Dinosaur, Tiny Miss N.C. Coastal Brandi Harrison, who will jazz, dance to Groove is in the lleari; The Dance Connection of Shallottc, Tooti-Fruiti; Little Miss Carolina Sweetheart Tia Corbcll, who will tap to Bugle Boy; Little Miss Wilmington Sara Catherine McPhaddcr, who will sing Yankee Doodle Dandy; and the Brunswick Cloggers' ABC show teams; and LittleMiss Brunswick County Chalmers Champion. Mrs. Jones, the mistress of ceremonies, will sing two selections. Little Flowers and No One Like You. A young woman will be chosen Saturday, June 8, to reign over the 1991 North Carolina Fourth of July Festival in Southport next month and to represent the festival during the coming year. Six women from across Bruns wick County arc entered in the 1991 North Carolina Fourth Of July Queen's Pageant, which begins at 8 p.m. at The Centennial Center, 8th and Lord Streets, Southport. The reigning queen, Robin Eliz abeth Walcou, will crown her suc cessor. Contestants arc as follows: ? Briton Campbell, 20, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Campbell of Southport; ? Leah (>ayle O'Daniels, 20, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dallas O'Daniels of Boiling Spring Lakes; ? Kristie Lachelle Atkinson, 21, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Atkinson of Southport; ?Bethany Lynn Workman, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis L. Workman of Boiling Spring Lakes; ?Klizabeth Catherine Baxter, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Baxter of Southport; and ?Stacie Darnell Cheers, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Ray Cheers of Bolivia. Contestants will be judged in three areas, interview, swinisuit and evening gown. The queen receives a $1,000 scholarship to ihc college or univer sity of her choice as well as a new wardrobe and and a travel al lowance for the many public ap pearances scheduled throughout her one-year reign. The queen is the official public relations executive for the South port event, traveling throughout the state to represent the festival and encourage statewide participation. Broad Stripes and Bright Stars is the theme for the 1991 North Carolina Fourth of July Queen's Pageant. Hosting and directing the event as mistresses of ceremonies will be Lisa Dale Young, the reigning Miss Brunswick County; Wendy Willi ams Jones, Miss Brunswick County 1990; Susan Ellen Holth, Miss Brunswick County 1986; Holly Walcott, 1988 N.C. Fourth of July queen; and Hannah Daniel, 1989 N.C. Fourth of July queen. Entertainment will be provided by Miss Young; Miss Topsail Island Tina Rene Long; Miss Wilmington Patricia Ann Parker; and the Bruns wick County Concert Band. Tickets, available at the door, are S5 for adults and S3 for students. The annual pageant is sponsored by the N.C. Fourth of July Festival Board of Directors and Festival Committee.
