STUDENTS IN THE NEWS Union Notes Perfect Attendance Forty Union Primary School stu dents were recognized for perfect attendance during the 1990-91 school year at a May 29 ceremony. Kindergarten students who re ceived certificates for attending school all 180 days during the year were Bryant Price, Lynn Grissett and Cecil Ellis. Make Dean's List Five Brunswick County residents made the dean's list for the spring semester at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. To make the list, students must cam a grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below C and com plete at least six semester hours of course work. Christy M. On the honors list, with a grade point average of 3.25 to 3.59, are Sharon Kay Roberge of Ocean Isle Beach, in the associate degree nurs ing program; and Brenda Elizabeth Johnson of Shallotte, in the college transfer program. Baxley Honored Kimberly Anne Baxley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Baxley of Shallouc, received the national Max ima Cum Laudc certificate for Latin Level 1 during the Salem Academy recognition program May 31. She is a rising senior at the four year prep school in Winston Salem. On CFCC List Ten students from Brunswick County have earned all A's and a place on the spring quarter presi dent's list at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington. Harrison To Head Library Trustees Marie Harrison of Shallotte was elected chairman of the Brunswick County Public Library Board of Trustees at its June 3 meeting. Pearl Stanley, also of Shallotte, was elected vice chairman. Reecie Tate, library director, will serve as secretary. Board members voted to name the newly refurnished children's room at the West Brunswick Branch Library in Shallotte in memory of the late Marie Ruark. The move honors her outstanding service and gifts to the library during her lifetime. Also at ihe June meeting, reports board member Matilda R. Sugg, a delegation from the Oak island Library Boosters, Inc., led by Leslie Collier of Long Beach appeared be fore the board. They discussed stan dards to be fulfilled in a proposed library for Oak Island, which would become a branch of the Brunswick County Public Library. Trustees meet bimonthly, with the next meeting Monday, Aug. 5. Meetings arc open to the public. Library Boosters Will Hold Auction Proceeds from an auction later this month will be used to help es tablish a library on Oak Island. Oak Island Library Boosters Inc. will hold the auction Saturday, June 29, starting at 10 a.m. at the old United Carolina Bank building at Yaupon Beach.
