AT CALABASH Presbyterians Break Ground Members and friends of Calabash Presbyterian Church gathered Sun day morning to break ground for the first unit of a church building. Tom Mcdciros, chairman of the building committee, turned the first shovel of dirt. Others taking a turn at the shovel included Crom Lcnnon, the Rev. Frank Elliott and the Rev. Jerry Mc Cann, representing the new church development committee of Coastal Carolina Presbytery; the Rev. Francis NVomack, minister; members of the session; Darius Lewellyn, contractor with Lcwellyn-Lcwis; and others. The church has been meeting for two years in the VFW Hall at Traders Village in Calabash. During the formative months the Rev. Frank Elliott, the Rev. Bill Thomas and the Rev. JcrTy McCann worked with interested people to ward the goal of becoming a church. Land was acquired on George town Road. Then, in February 1990, a com mission of Coastal Carolina Presby tery organized the new congrega tion. Rev. McCann served as its in terim minister until the appointment of Womack in November 1990 as the first full-time pastor. The building to be erected will include a multipurpose room that will be used for both worship and fellowship events. The facility will also include two offices, rest rooms, a kitchen and a classroom. Work is expected to begin in the near future, said Womack, with the building ready for use in worship in the early fall. CEDAR GROVE AREA NEW?; Churches Plan Day Of Prayer BY BARBARA T.
