SALLY NORD is the cham ber's Volunteer of the Year. > Awards Presented, New Leaders Installed At Chamber Banquet BY LYNN CARLSON Glen Humbert of United Carolina Bank was named Citizen of the Year at Friday's South Brunswick Islands Chamber of Commerce annual ban quet held al Sea Trail Plantation. Chamber members enjoyed rec ognition for their efforts on behalf of the local business community, in stalled new directors and officers, and paid tribute to member Ed Jones, who died in an automobile accident last week. Jones, owner of Jones Ford in Shalloue, was described as a "friend, partner and neighbor?a true and faithful friend" in a letter read on be half of outgoing president Tcny Barbee, who was unable to attend because of Jones' death. The chamber's 1991 president, Annette Odom of Yarbrough-Farr Construction, received the Presi dent's Award for "unequalled devo tion to the chamber for seven years" and for her "talent, time and leader ship." Odom was also given a plaque recognizing her successful effort to have "Brunswick County Beaches" signs placed along major highways leading to the South Brunswick Islands. Odom accepted a plaque on be half of Barbee depicting a "big heart and small gavel" in recognition of his leadership as chamber president. The Community Service Awanl lor "financial and volunteer service" went to Laughinghousc, who is the lop United Carolina Bank official in the area.
