ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFS Aerobics, Music, Stories On Department's Agenda The Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Department has a new acrobics class for teens, a story telling workshop and a trip to see Doc Severinsen on its agenda. The Severinsen concert will be Saturday, Feb. 27, at 8 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh. Tic kets are on sale for S7 at the recre ation department in Bolivia; trans portation is not included. A low-impact aerobics class will be held at North Brunswick High School for grades 9 through 12 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. It will be taught by a certified acrobics instructor. It will begin on Monday, March 1 and will cost S15 per month or S3 per class drop-in fee. Participants can register at the first class. Anyone under 18 must have parents' permission. A story-telling workshop will be offered on Monday, March 29, which is scheduled as a county-wide teachers' work day. Children in kindergarten through fourth grade may participate at two locations: the Shallotte Library, 1 1:45 p.m., or the Southpoit Library, 10-10:45 a.m. Pre-rcgistcr by calling the recre ation department. There is no fee. Tickets for Bella Davidovich and the Danish National Radio Sym phony Orchestra arc still available. Show hours will be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission will be S2 for adults and SI for children. More than 100 bed quilts, wall hangings and quilled items will be displayed. Shallotte Native To Speak At ACT-SO Benefit Dinner Earlcnc Hardie Cox, a native of Shailoltc and director of taxes for IBM Credit Corp. in Stam ford, Conn., will be the featured speaker for a Feb. 19 dinner benefit for the Brunswick County ACT SO Scholarship Program. COX dinner begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Public Assembly Building of the Bruns wick County Government Center at Bolivia. A graduate of Shallotte High School who also attended Union High School, Cox holds a baccalau reate degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a juris doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has completed post graduate studies at Pace University in New York. The Armonk, N.Y., resident joined IBM in 1978 as a tax attorney in the corporate tax department and has since held various legal posi tions as well as international tax and financial management posts. She was named to her current position in 1989. Cox is a member of the American and New York Bar Associations and the Tax Executive Institute. She is married, with two children, and also serves as vice president of the board of directors of a 250-spacc day care center. ACT-SO is the acronym for Afro Academic, Cultural, Technological Scientific Olympics. It is a major project of the NAACP for encourag ing and inspiring young people to aspire to excellence in their academ ic and cultural pursuits while bene fitting from the maximum support of their community, said spokesman Pcrita B. Participants will have the oppor tunity to experience astronaut train ing simulators, space shuttle mission simulation and an Imax giant screcn space movie. They'll also learn about the history of space explo ration and science experiments in the Discovery lab. They will tour Kennedy Space Center and follow the process of preparing a shuttle for launch.
