118 Score Wins Brierwood Ladies Best Ball Tournament the team of Nancy Bouldin, Edith Wilckens, Maureen Farley and Pat Wolff shot 118 to win the Bricrwood Ladies Golf Association two best hall event last Thursday at The Gauntlet. Finishing second with a 122 was the foursome of Rose Rciter, Sally Dye, Ruth Lindcr and Marion Corbin. Third place went to the team of Mary Schaack, Catherine Clemmons and Betty Shrevc with a 124. They used a blind draw for their fourth score. Placing fourth with a 125 was the foursome of Marie Brown, Marion Johnson, Elsie Rickbcil and Bobbyc Cordisco. Last Tuesday, Louise Blizzard and Rose Rciter shot 147 to tic for first with the team of Maureen Farley and Joanna Lang in the Bricrwood women's blind partners event. Finishing one stroke back in sec ond place was the twosome of Nancy Bouldin and Ann Hicrman. Jane Flcig and Marjc Roach shot 151 and tied for third with Shirley Groff and May Robertson. Fourth place went to Cathy Clemmons and Esther Smith with a 152. Placing fifth with 154 was the team of Margaret Wood and Doris Dun fee. May Robertson had a chip-in for birdie at the 10th hole. Other birdies were carded by Sara McCullough at the sixth hole and Mary Schaack at the ninth and 10th. Recording chip-ins were Martha NVarehcim at the eighth hole. Peg Stcincr at the 11th, Louise Blizzard at the 13th, Evelyn Wuthrich and Nancy Bouldin at the 16th and Emily Laughlin at the 18th. Emily Laughlin, Bobbie Maples and Ethel Brown tied for low putts with 30 each. Marjc Roach and Marge Harper had 31 apiecc. Sea Trail Men Dick Mathcny, Dick Worlcy, Bob \1(xirc and Bob Dclancy posted a score of 295 to win the Sea Trail Men's Ciolf Association low net of foursome event last Tuesday. Second place went to the team of George Bccrman, Joe Polanski, Bill Kushncr and Herb Yost with 302. Golfers competed on the Jones course. Bill Walters, Sutn Risch, Bud Tuni and Charlie Ferguson took third with 311. Finishing fourth with a 314 was the team of Wayne Ruff, George Gallop, Don Lowry and Augie Douglass. Closest-to-the-pin winners were Ted Acton at the second hole, Beerman at the fifth, Kushncr at the 13th and Doug Mehne at 17. Carolina Shores Ladies Lynn Jerr fired a net 36 to lead the first flight in the Carolina Shores ladies Golf Association tournament last Thursday. Runners-up in the top flight were Ellen Rose with net 40 and Sally Manifold, also with 40. Rose took second on a match of cards. In the second flight, Gloria Lucas led the way with a net 43. Betty Goodwin was sccond with 45 and Ruth Radcliffc placed third with 45.5. Alice Abbcne won the third flight with a round of 41. On a match of cards, Shirley Vazquez was sccond with 43.5 and Jean McNamara fin ished third. Marie Schobcr led the way in the fourth flight with a score of 40.5. Louise Oldman was sccond with net 44. Calabash Veterans Larry Bollinger fired gross H4 ad Ray Shannon shot net 70 to lead the first flight in the Calabash Veterans Golf Association tournament last Friday at Pincland Country Club in Nichols, SC. Runncrs-up in the lop flight, de cided on matches of cards, were Bob Christian with gross 84 and Clyde Schramm with net 70. Top finishers in the second flight included Fred Hall with gross 89 and Mike Seek with net 74. Jim Johnson posted a gross 93 and Cliff Masscy had net 76 to place second. In the third flight. Bob Phillips had the low gross of 91 and Carl Foster was second with 93. On a match of cards, George Beach took low-net honors with a 71. Foster al so shot 71, and Hal Ricbcsschl fired net 72. Joe Rcitcr. Dave Harper, Janet Twomcy and Martha Warchcim shot even-par 36 to tic Roy Havcnga, Bob Warchcim, Marge Harper and Louise Blizzard. In other action Thursday, the team of Dave Harper, John Twomcy, Jerry Smith and Bill Allen shot 16-undcr 128 to win a two best ball event. Two teams tied for sccond. Otlie Johnson, Jerry Wolff, John Martocci and Jack Akcrs shot 131 to tie the foursome of Joe Rcitcr, Bill Goldsbcrry, Al Butler and Norm Soucic. On Feb. X, four-man teams count ed the two best balls on the front nine and three best balls on the back nine to determine the teams core. Winning with a 12-undcr-par 168 was the team of Jim Roach, John Martocci, Charlie Stransky and Bill Pingo. Dave Harper, Howard Bayne, Bill Allen and Norm Soucic shot 171 and finished sccond. West Boosters Plan Tourney The West Brunswick High School Athletic Boosters Club will sponsor its annual captain's choice golf tour nament Saturday, March 6. This year's event will be held at River Hills Country Club, located on U.S. 17 in Little River, S.C. Tec times start at 12:16p.m. The S50-pcr-pcrson entry fee pays for green and cart fees, barbe cue and refreshments. The tourna ment will feature closcst-to-thc-pin and long drive contests, as well as contests for putting, chipping and club throwing. Finals Are Slated Thursday In Middle School Basketball Brunswick County middle school basketball season ends Thursday with the finals of the county tourna ment at Leland Middle School. The girls' championship game starts at 6 p.m. and will be followed by the boys' final at 7:15 p.m., said County Schools Athletic Director Nelson Best. On Monday, South Brunswick Middle's boys and girls advanced to the finals with wins over Shallotte Middle School. Sheba Fullwood scored 15 points to lead the South girls to a 33-19 win. Nicholas Johnson and Carlon Parker scored eight points each to lead the South Brunswick boys to a 35-28 upset win. Waccamaw and Leland were scheduled to square off Tuesday night in girls and boys first-round tournament games. The winners will take on South Middle for the county championships.
