Do you have a good photograph to help authorities identify your child? The Brunswick County Community Watch Association will hold the first in a scries of child identification programs Saturday, Feb. 27, from 9 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Wal-Mart store in Shallotte. Children will be videotaped and voicc printed by a Brunswick County Sheriffs Deputy. The records will be kept securely loeked at the Sheriffs Department where they will be immediately available if needed for a miss ing person's investigation. Video taping provides authorities with quick access to a large number of photographic records that can be transmitted to other agencies in volved in a search, said BCSD Crime Prevention Office Donald Gates. Voicc printing has been found it bo a quicker, more effective way than fingerprinting to provide positive identification, especially with children. Gates said. "Each human voicc has a characteristic imprint that can be analyzed electronically and which docs not change throughout a person's life," he said. The identification program is offered free of charge. McGrulf the Crime Dog will be on hand to give a prize to all children who participate.
