Area. Deaths And Funerals FLOYD COLLINS GORE Floyd Collins Gore, 67, of Beth lehem, Pa., died Feb. 6 at Muh lenberg Hospital Center. The funeral was Feb. 12 at Second Baptist Church, Bethlehem, Pa., with the Rev. Edward A. Thom pson, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Nisky Hill Cemetery, Bethlehem. Born Feb. 3, 1926, in Supply, he was the son of Bell Davis Gore of Supply and the late Robert Gore. Gore attended Brunswick County Training School in Southport, and was affiliated with Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Supply. Survivors in addition to his moth er includc his wife, Pauline Moody Gore of the home; two sons, Curtis Gore of Bethlehem and Eric Gore of Pittsburgh, Pa.; three daughters, Mrs. William (Carol) Brody; Mrs. Garfield (Shirley) Smith; and Mrs. Stephen (Patricia) Cooper of Capital Heights, Md.; three brothers, David Gore, Joseph Gore and Wade Gore, all of Supply; three sisters, Lillic Mercer and Janic Bryant, both of Supply, and Essie Jones of Fayct tcville; and 11 grandchildren. A son, Lloyd C. Gore, preceded him in death. LOTTIE MINTZ BENTON Lottie Mintz Benton, 81, of Little River, S.C., died Feb. 15, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. The funeral was Feb. 18 at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, Hick man's Crossroads, with Elder W.C. Mintz and Elder Newell Helms offi ciating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bom in Brunswick County on July 21, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Julia Brown Mint/.. She had been a member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church since 1944. Survivors include four sons, Ellis Benton Jr. of Supply, Elder William Marsdon Benton of Lcland, Robert Kenneth Benton of Oxcnhill, Md., and Billy A. Benton of Shallottc; a daughter, Julia B. Lee of Little Riv er; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis M. Benton Sr.; two sons, Robert Benton and Henry Henderson Benton; and a daughter, 1-ottie. HAZEL MAST WARD Hazel Mast Ward, 65, of Supply died Feb. 17, at The Brunswick Hospital. She was retired from the housekeeping department of Appalachian State University and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Clayton Ward of the home; a son, James Ward of Sugar Grove; a daughter, Martha Walters Davis of Banner Elk; a brother, Cecil Mast of Banner Elk; and a sister, Betty Harmon of Elk Park; one grandson; and two granddaughters. A JANET WILLIS JOHNSON Janet Willis Johnson, 33, dial Sunday, Feb. 21. at Grand Strand General Hospital in Myrtle Beach SC. Mrs. Johnson was born May 1, 1959, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was (laughter of Robert E. Willis and the late Janet Newlands Willis. She was a secretary with Boling Century 21. She moved to the Myrtle Beach area 13 years ago from Brooklyn. Surviving arc her husband, David Bryan Johnson of Calabash; her fa ther, Robert E. Willis and stepmoth er, Eleanor Hansen Willis of Myrtle Beach; a brother, Robert Willis Jr. of Myrtle Beach; a sister, Barbara Rice of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two step sisters, Jackie Zarczynski of Myrtle Beach and Kathleen Valentino of New Paltz, N.Y. NELSON Funeral services were held Feb. 19 in Newton, NJ., for Gail L. Nelson, 74, of Calabash. Mr. Nelson died Feb. 15 at New ton Memorial Hospital. Born in Cotcau, N.D., he lived in Hcrmiston, Ore., and in Sparta, NJ., for more than 25 years before mov ing to Calabash six years ago. Mr. Nelson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a civilian per sonnel officer at Picatinny Arsenal, Rockaway Township, NJ., before his retirement. His wife, Violet, died in 1987. Mr. Nelson is survived by three daughters. MARILYN HELENATHAN Marilyn Helen Athan, 54, of Shallottc died Feb. 20 at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 30 years of ser vice. Mrs. Athan was a avid golfer and was a member of the Bricrwood Golf Association. Surviving are her husband, Burlcy Athan, of the home; a daughter, Sasan Littlcjohn of Winston-Salem; a son, Chris Athan of Winston Salcin; two sisters, Jackie Schreincr of Topcka, Kansas, and Paitie Malrick of Portland, Oregon. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bom in Goldsboro on June 8, 1967, he was a son of James Wilson and Kmily Louise Gore Vamum Sr. He was a 1989 graduate of UNC Chapcl Hill wtih a baccalaureate de gree in history and art history and a 1992 graduate of the tcachcr certifi cation and secondary studies progrm at UNC-Wilmington. At UNC-CH, he was a dean's list student and re ceived the Chancellors Achievement Award. Vamum was an assistant re searcher in the Dept. of Historical Research of the Colonial Williams burg Foundation, Williamsburg, Va? and a volunteer at Autumn Care Nursing Center, Shallottc, the N.C. Preservation SWAT Team Clean-Up for the Bellamy Mansion, Wilm ington, and was a member of vari ous historical organizations. Survivors in addition to his par ents include a brother, Steven A. Vamum of Shallottc; two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Sarah) V. Gore of Tabor City and Mrs. Ken (Sandra) V.
