Leading the local contingent was South Brunswick's Craig Frazicr, who placed third at 171 pounds, and teammate Phillip Craven with a fourth-place finish at 160. "Both of those boys are seniors and they've worked real hard the last few years," West Brunswick Coach Joe Noble said Tuesday. "I'm glad for them." Noble also was pleased with the performance of his own wrestlers. Five Trojans were among the 14 county grapplers to advancc to the state tournament with strong show ings at the Eastern Regional. West's Dexter Cokeley and Chris Jackson both placed fifth at 112 and 119 pounds respectively. Finishing seventh were William Stanley at 160 and Eric Andreis at 145. Ja Mitchell placed ninth at 140 af ter losing 7-6 to the eventual state champion in his weight class. Noble said Mitchell had his opponent on his back when time expired in their match. "That's by far the best showing we've had in the three years we've had the program," Noble said. West Brunswick has sent 12 wrestlers to the state tournament in three years. "I look for it to be as good if not better next year," Noble said. North Brunswick's two state qualifiers, Mike Ganey and Dwaun Gibbs, didn't fair loo well in Greensboro. The 189-pound Gibbs lost two of three bouts and Ganey lost both of his matches at 130 pounds, said Scorpion Coach Mike Dumas. Ganey was beating a regional champion in his first match before injuring his ribs and being forced to withdraw. "He wresded two fine matches," Dumas said of the junior. Noble said the four, top-five fin ishes are a good sign that Brunswick County wrestling is improving. "1 think we're working our way up the ladder. It's just a matter of time. When the kids in the pee wee program get into the high schools, 1 think you'll start seeing a lot of good wrestlers coming out of Bruns wick County."
