The March 13 forum is being held in conjunction with the 13th annual N.C. Commercial Fishing Show at the Crystal Coast Civic Center in Morchead City March 13-14. The forum will include an overview of new and proposed state and federal regulations affecting the commercial fishing industry, includ ing federal turtle excluder device (TED) requirements, fish excluders for shrimp trawl, an update on "li cense to sell" seafood, and fisheries zoning in North Carolina. Also included in the forum will be a presentation by the Coast Guard on boarding policies, fisheries enforce ment, vessel safety regulations and a proposed commercial fishing opera tor's license. For processors, the forum will in clude a segment coordinated by N.C. State University's Seafood Lab. Topics arc "Food Safety and Federal Inspection of Seafood," "Nutritional Labeling." "What is HACCP?" and "Shellfish Handling, Packing and Processing Requirements." The fishing show, a boat and gear show for commercial fishermen, will run feature exhibits and sales of boats, engines, electronics, fishing gear and accessory equipment. Fairmont Ends Scorps' Season The North Brunswick boys' bas ketball season came to a merciful end last Tuesday as host Fairmont defeated the Scorpions 83-52 in the first round of the Waccamaw Con ference Basketball Tournament. Corry Addison scored 22 points to lead the regular-season confer ence champ Golden Tornadoes. North Brunswick, which has lost 25 straight Waccamaw Conference games, will switch leagues next fall and "play down" to the 1-A level despite its 2-A enrollment.
