IN MEN'S LEAGUE Turntables Finish At 7 6-0 The Turntables posted a pair of wins last week in Brunswick County Men's Basketball League play to finish the regular season with a 16-0 record. Trampus Gausc and Aldridgc Reed scored 20 points apiece as the Turntables rolled to a 103-73 win over the Natural Litcs last Thursday at Shallottc Middle School. Greg White paced the Litcs with 19 points. On Wednesday, Jeff Johnson scored 27 points to lead the Turn tables to a 91-85 victory over the second-place Lakers. Charles Webb had 24 points for the Lakers, who finished the regular season 12-4. In other action last Thursday, Chris Johnson [toured in 22 points to lead the Young Guns to a 72-67 win over ihc UCB Nets. Brad Axitill had 24 points to pace the Nets. Also last week, the Warriors de feated the Nets 79-71. Joe Vcrccn had 37 points to lead the Warriors, and Antill scored 32 for the Nets. The league tournament was sche duled to begin Monday night at the middle school. Games also were slated for Wednesday and Thursday nights. Other top finishers included Rosemary Dobson with a 483 scratch series and 663 handicap se ries. Ginny Anzclonc rolled a 473 scratch, and Roberta Frisby had a 615 handicap. Carol Vcalcy had a 201 high game and 476 scratch scries, while Pat Formyduval posted a high game of 181 and 473 scratch. Fran Cousins had a high game of 179. Nutty Buddies Dennis Harpstcr rolled a 267 high game and 657 scratch series to lead the men in the Nutty Buddies bowl ing league last Tuesday. Top women finishers were Faye Surace with high games of 223 and 216 and a 612 scratch scries, and Faye McKeithan with a 204 high game and 532 scratch. Crystal Bryant rolled a 214 for her first 200 plus game. IN VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE Rita's Team Upsets Gene's Rita's Team upset regular-season champ Gene's Auto Body 15-0, 15 12, in the second round of the Brunswick County Co-Rec Volley ball League tournament last Tuesday. Rita's Team, the tournament's third seed, also posted a 15-10, 15-8, win over Roberto's Pizza on the tournament's opening night at Shallolle Middle School. In other first-round matches, Ric hard Jones Construction was a 15 10, 15-11, winner over A&A Auto Rentals, and Brunswick Community College defeated Kari's Team 12-15, 15-8,13-12. The tournament was scheduled to continue Tuesday night at the mid dle school. The final matches will be played March 23. Calvary Wins Regular Season Calvary Baptist wrapped up an undefeated regular season in the Brunswick County Men's Church Basketball League last Friday with a 59-51 win over Friendship Baptist. Calvary won the regular-season championship with a 13-0 record. Finishing second at 11-2 was Shal lotte First Baptist, which defeated Soldier Bay 45-29 Friday night at Waccamaw Elementary School. In other Friday games, Lctties Grove edged New Britlon 49-43 in overtime, and Zion Baptist knocked off Mount Olive 39-32. In league action last Tuesday, Jennies Branch beat Emanual Out reach 52-38, Ocean View defeated Shalloue Presbyterian 50-39 and Camp Methodist squeaked by Sea side Mclhodisi 41-39. The league tournament was sche duled to begin Tuesday and it will continue through March 26. West Bruns wick opens the regular season at home Thursday against Dillon, S.C., at 6 p.m. The Trojans will enter tain Waccamaw Academy Friday at 4:30 p.m. Season Openers Are Delayed Cokl, windy weather forced local high school teams to postpone sev eral spring season openers Monday, including a tennis match at West Brunswick and a Waccamaw Conference golf match at Fairmont. The Trojans' tennis match with Whiieville will be played April 22. Also, West Brunswick's match at South Brunswick originally slated for April 5 will be played Thursday in Boiling Spring Lakes. The Cougars, under the direction of first-year tennis coach Greg Bland, opened the season Monday with a 9-0 sweep of visiting East Bladen. Bland was a regional champion at West Brunswick. North Brunswick's baseball season opener against Hoggard also was canceled Monday. Coach Wcs Coward's Scorpions were scheduled to play at Hoggard Tuesday afternoon. Trojans Set 100 Inning Game West Brunswick's baseball team will hold its fourth annual 100-in ning game Saturday, March 20, starting at 8:30 a.m. Trojan Coach Mike Aldcrson said the marathon game is being held to raise money for the baseball team. Players will get pledges for each in ning played. "We try to get each kid to get about 10 cents per inning and 10 pledges per player," Aldcrson said. Alumni baseball players from Wesl Brunswick or the old Shallouc High School arc invited to partici pate. "We have a lot of fun out there," Aldcrson said. "Some of the old guys get to play and meet the varsity team and reminisce about old times." The camp is open to all 4-H'crs between the ages of 9 and 19, who must supply their own horses, equip ment, feed and transportation. Saw dust for stalls is provided. Camp costs SI65, with applica tions and an $80 deposit due May 1 and the balance on arrival at camp. A S15 late fee is charged for appli cations postmarked after May 1. The camp program also includes grooming and handling and equip ment care, horse judging, nutrtion, safety, stable management and health care. Demonstrations, lec tures, a horse show, judging contest, trail rides, workshops and riding les sons will be featured. Also offered are canoeing, sports, swimming, dancing and archery. Wildlife Camp Set In Sandhills Youngsters ages 11 through 15 will get a chance to take to the woods at the 11th annual Fur, Fish 'N' Game Rendezvous June 20-25 at Millstone 4-H Camp near Ellerbc. Billy Privcue, county 4-H exten sion agent, said campers explore natural resources by studying wildl ife and forests as renewable re sources. They add to their knowl edge and understanding of wildlife resources, environmental needs, good ethics and sportsmanship. Part icipants will lcam about aquatic bi ology, game management, hunter safety and wildlife photography. Other camp activities include first aid, canoeing, map and compass reading and archery. Space is limited to 100 boys and girls and previous Rendezvous campers are not eligible to attend. Cost is S140, which covers all ex penses, and is due to the extension office by May 1. League Title Game Will Be Saturday The Trojan-Airc Winter Basket ball League will hold its champi onship game this Saturday at 10 a.m. in the West Brunswick High School gym. Umpire Clinic Set Brunswick County Parks and Rccrcation will sponsor a clinic for baseball and softbali umpires Sun day, March 21, at Town Creek Township Park.
