CHURCH ACTIVITIES Revival Services Are Announced spring is a traditional season of hope and renewal, and for many lo cal churches, a time of revival Revival services are scheduled by numerous congregations over the coming weeks. Longv/ood Baptist The Rev. Bill Thompson will be the evangelist for revival services at Long wood Baptist Church. A Sunday night sing March 28 at 6 p.m. will feature The Serenadcrs, followed by services March 29 April 2 at 7:30 p.m., with special singing at each. The Rev. Barry Long is the host pastor. A nursery will be provided and the church van is available for transportation. Call 287-6360. Mt. Olive Revival Mount Olive Baptist Church will hold revival services March 28 April 2 at 7 p.m. nightly. Guest evangelist will be the Rev. Roy E. Houston, professor of Chris tian ethics at Fruilland Baptist Bible Institute. The 48-year-old Rev. Hou ston is a graduate of Clarke College, Mississippi College and New Or leans Seminary and has spent the past 29 years in full-time ministry. He has been with Fruilland Bap tist Bible Institute for two years and is pastor of Dutch Cove Baptist Church in Canton. Special music will be a part of the worship each evening. Groups sche duled to appear include Rapture, The Missionaires, The Guiding Lights and others. Mount Olive's pastor is the Rev. Anthony Clcmmons. The church is next to Brunswick Community Col lege in Bolivia. Jennies Branch The Rev. Tom C. Womblc of Fuquay-Varina, an employee of the Baptist Slate Convention of North Carolina, will serve as guest minister for revival ser vices March 28 31 at Jennies Branch Baptist WOMBLK Church [;car Ocean Isle Beach. Services will begin with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. March 28, with evening ser vices at 7:30 o'clock each day. Special music is planned for each service under the direction of Bobby Gore. A nursery will be provided. Womble serves as associate for budget administration and business affairs for the slate convention. Pre viously he served as pastor of four churches over a 25-year period. He is a graduate of Wake Foresl Uni versity and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, as well as the Babcock School of Business Man agement Institute at Wake Forest. The Rev. Herman C. Guild To Meet The Ladies Guild of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., will meet Friday, April 2, after the 8 a.m. Mass. Following breakfast in the social hall, the guest speaker will be Sister Jane Clare Simon. The guild is making plans for its annual Easter bake sale at the church and at North Myrtle Beach Com munity Center, which will benefit Mercy Hospice. Holy Week Vigil Set Little River United Methodist Church will begin its observance of Holy Week with a prayer vigil in the sanctuary from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, April 5. Maundy Thursday communion service will start at 7 p.m. and Easier morning worship services will be held at 8:30 o'clock and 11 o'clock, said spokesman Mary Cobb. Funerals ALVIN HARItKK CRISP Alvin Barber Crisp, 67, of Wilmington, died March 16 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center. A graveside funeral was held March 18 in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Crisp was born in Edgecombe County April 27, 1925, to the late Mack and Sallie Crisp. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Webb Crisp of the home; three sons, Jaincs Crisp of Winn abow and Randcl Crisp and Kim Crisp, both of Wilmington; a sister, Agnes Moore of Tarboro; two grandsons and a step-granddaughter. GENEVA W, GRICE Geneva W. Gricc, 93, of Guardian Care Nursing Home. Kinston, died March 16 in Lenoir Memorial Hospital. The funeral was March 19 irom the graveside at Town Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Earl Hcwctt officiating. Mrs. Gricc was formerly of the Town Creek community and was a member of Mission of Christ Church of Lcland. EMMA M. BENNETT Emma Margaret "Maggie" Ben nett, 98, of Ash, died March 20 in The Brunswick Hospital. The funeral was March 23 in the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel, Shallottc, with the Rev. Bill Bennett, her son, officiating. Burial was in the Manlcy Bennett Cemetery. Born in Brunswick County on April 2, 1894, she was a daughter of the late Elias and Emma Norris Jcnrctle. Survivors include three sons, Samuel Lesion Bennett of Bolivia, Bill Bennett of Houston, Texas, and Jack T. Bennett of Ash; three daugh ter;, Emma Neil Mikcls of Wilm ington, Lou Nell Vaught of Loris, SC., and Cora Elizabeth Neuhaus of Wylie, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and eight great great-grandchildren. VINCENT EDWARD BROWN Vincent Edward Brown, 19, of Southpon, died March 18 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was a mechanic with James E. Brown Inc. A graveside servicc was held March 20 in Northwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Gilbert Howell offici ating. Brown was bom April 28, 1973, in Numbcrg, Germany, the son of Jame E. and Beverly West Brown of Soulhport, and had lived in South port most of his life. He was a mem ber of Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ of Boiling Spring Lakes. Survivors in addition to his par ents include a sister. JACK DEMPSEY BENNETT Jack Dempsey Bennett, 72, of Lcland, died March 16 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. A graveside funeral was held March 20 at St. Andrews on the Sound Episcopal Church. Born in Wilmington on May 17, 1921, he was the son of Arnie Pearl Pennington Bennett and the late Japtha Thomas Bennett. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps pilot for four years and then was a commercial pi lot and Hight instructor for Pen nington's Flying Service and Aero nautics Inc. Survivors in addition to his moth er include two sons. Randy Thomas Bennett and James Theodore Bennett, both of Wilmington; a daughter, Jacqueline B. Koito of Raleigh; five brothers, three sisters and eight grandchildren. BLANCHE P. MORRIS Blanche Pearl Norris, 87, of Route I, Tabor City, died March 19 at Loris (S.C.) Community Hospital. The funeral was March 21 in lnman Funeral Chapel in Tabor City, with the Rev. Bill Williams and the Rev. Ragsdale Allsbrook officiating. Burial was in the Sandy Plain Cem etery. Born in Longs, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Richard and Mary Housand Bellamy. She was born on July 8, 1926, in Burgaw, to the late Ardrey and Milbrcy Watkins Blanton. BANGS Richard F. Bangs, 68, of Bricr wood Estates, Shallottc, died March 20 at The Brunswick Hospital, Sup ply, of chronic obstructive pul monary disease, which led to con gestive heart failure. The funeral was held March 24 at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Setauket, Long Island, N Y. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Bangs moved to Shallottc fol lowing his retirement from educa tion. He was a secondary school teachcr and principal for more than 20 years at various schools in Long Island. He was a veteran of the Eighth Air Force in World War 11 and served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, retiring as a major. Here he was active in tJie St. Brendan's Roman Catholic Church parish, serving as parish council president two years and representing the church on the South Brunswick Intcrchurch Council. Mr. Bangs was an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, the former Helen Bernetsky; three sons, Richard Bangs and David Bangs, both of New York City, N.Y., and Gregg Bangs of Upper Montclair, N.J.; a daughter, Claudia, 34, of Setauket; and three grandchildren. Vic Potter Jr. officiating. Burial was in Piney Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Flowers was born in Bladen County on March 2, 1916. She was a member of Town Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wilber Flow ers, and two sons, James Donald Rowers and Norman Milton Rowers.
